Sienna's POV
Today had been hectic. I had been packing for my vacation to Monaco.
Yeah, I had finally decided that I needed the vacation.
Mia was thrilled when I told her I was going.
After everything that had happened at work and with my ex, I was finally excited about leaving London.
I needed a break from everything.
I needed to clear my head. I didn't want to think about my cheating ex, my annoying boss, or the promotion for a while.
Then my phone started ringing. I already knew who it was before I picked up the call.
"Hello, Mia, how—"
She didn't even let me finish.
"Are you done packing?" she asked.
"Not really, but I'm almost done," I said with a sigh.
"Okay, that's good. Make sure you pack everything you know you'll need."
"Okay, Mum," I said, laughing.
"Mock me all you want, but I know you can't survive without me."
"You wish," I said, sticking my tongue out.
Then I remembered she couldn't even see me.
"So, make sure you have fun and don't spend the entire vacation thinking about work and that cheating bastard."
"Okay, I will try not to," I assured her.
"And don't forget to do this very important part of your trip," she said in a serious tone.
"What?" I asked.
"f**k a handsome stranger in Monaco!" she yelled into the phone before bursting into laughter.
I rolled my eyes.
"For a moment, I thought you were going to say something serious. Stop being so naughty," I said, trying to caution her.
But she kept laughing.
"Okay, it's late. Go to bed already," I said, yawning.
"Okay. Don't be late. See you tomorrow," she said before hanging up.
The next morning, I was already ready by six.
My flight was at seven-thirty.
I checked my suitcase to make sure I had everything I needed. Clothes, toiletries, passport, phone, charger, and my laptop.
Everything was intact.
If Mia knew I was taking my laptop with me, I was definitely going to get an earful from her.
I had hesitated while packing it before finally putting it into my bag.
I had promised myself I wouldn't work.
I told myself I was only taking it in case something important came up.
Deep down, I knew I could never completely switch off the reporter in me.
At exactly six-thirty, Mia came to pick me up from home. She was taking me to the airport.
She kept yelling my name from outside the building.
"Sienna! Pack your bags and bring your ass out here!"
I shook my head.
I knew how dramatic Mia could be, so I grabbed my bags and went outside to meet her.
It took us about thirty minutes to get to the airport.
When we arrived, Mia gave me one last warning.
"Make sure you enjoy yourself," she said.
It was probably the tenth time she had said it that morning.
"I will," I promised, hugging her.
"And don't forget to f**k lots of handsome dudes in Monaco. If possible, bring one back," she said, laughing.
"Never going to happen. The only thing I plan to bring back is a tan."
"Oh, you are so boring. Remind me why we're still friends?" she asked, rolling her eyes.
"Because you love me so much and you can't survive this world without me," I said, making a cute face at her.
Before she could reply, someone suddenly crashed into me.
My bag almost fell from my shoulder.
I turned around, expecting an apology.
Instead, the stranger didn't even turn to look at me.
He simply waved one hand as if the whole thing was nothing and continued talking on his phone.
I stared after him, completely stunned.
"How rude. He couldn't even apologize," I said to Mia angrily.
"Yeah, how annoying. People can be so rude."
"Come on, forget about him. You have a plane to catch," she said, pulling me forward.
I looked at the stranger again.
He still hadn't bothered to look back. He was still talking on his phone.
"People are just so rude. You bump into someone, the sensible thing to do is apologize," I said, still grumbling under my breath.
"It's okay, Sienna. Don't let some annoying stranger spoil your mood," Mia said, trying to calm me down.
"Yeah, you're right. But I need to start going before I miss my flight."
I hugged her.
"Okay. Bye. I love you."
"I love you too."
I waved before walking away.
Mia kept waving until I couldn't see her anymore.
Such a drama queen.
Without her in my life, it would be so boring.
After checking in, I boarded the plane.
I found my seat and put my things away.
I sat down without paying much attention to the other passengers.
Then I noticed a shadow standing beside my seat.
I looked up.
It was him.
The rude stranger from earlier.
For a few seconds, he simply stood there staring at me.
I totally ignored him like I hadn't noticed him standing there.
Though I kept wondering why he was looking at me.
"Get up from my seat," he said in a gruff voice.
I looked at the seat number and realized I was sitting in his seat.
I immediately felt embarrassed, but instead of apologizing, I became defensive.
"You could have just asked nicely," I said, staring at him with a stern expression.
"Okay. Can you please leave my seat?"
He paused.
"Is this good enough, or do I have to grovel before you stand up?"
"You're so rude," I scoffed.
His eyebrows lifted.
"I'm rude?"
"Yes, you are rude," I repeated.
"Excuse you. You are the one sitting in my seat and arguing with me. I think you're the one with the problem."
"No, you're the one with the problem. You crashed into me at the airport and didn't even apologize."
"Oh, you're the lady from earlier. You were the one who crashed into me."
I was furious.
"No, I didn't."
"Next time, check where you're going before blaming other people for your mistake."
He turned away from me as if I wasn't there.
No.
I couldn't let him have the last word.
"Hey, Mr. Rude Pants, you should be the one doing that because I definitely checked where I was going," I said in a pissed-off voice.
Then I noticed the nearby passengers staring at us.
Our voices were getting a little too loud.
An air hostess finally approached us.
"Excuse me. Is everything okay?" she politely asked.
He explained everything to her.
"Can I see your boarding pass, ma'am?"
I handed it to her.
After checking, she confirmed that I was indeed in the wrong seat.
I reluctantly moved to my actual seat.
"Sorry for the inconvenience," she said before leaving us.
I glanced at the man.
He was already looking at me.
We exchanged another annoyed glance before looking away.
The flight became annoyingly uncomfortable because neither of us wanted to acknowledge the other.
I tried to sleep, but I couldn't.
I tried not to acknowledge his presence, but my eyes kept wandering toward him.
He spent most of the flight on his phone or looking out the window.
Now and then, we exchanged annoyed glances.
"I just want this damn flight to end," I murmured to myself.
Eventually, the plane began its descent into Nice Côte d'Azur Airport.
From there, I would take a taxi to Monaco. It was only about a thirty-to-forty-five-minute drive.
I felt relieved that I wouldn't have to deal with that annoying stranger anymore.
Once we landed, I collected my luggage and headed through the airport.
I hoped I wouldn't come across the rude stranger again.
I was finally going to Monaco.
As I stepped outside, I took in the beautiful surroundings and immediately felt like the vacation was worth it.
I reminded myself why I had come here.
I wanted to clear my head.
I wanted to forget about my ex.
And after Celine's announcement at work, I secretly wanted to find a story that could win me that promotion.
As I left the airport, I thought about Celine's challenge.
I had promised myself that I wouldn't work during my vacation, but I couldn't completely shut off the reporter inside me.
Monaco was full of wealthy people, celebrities, businessmen, and important figures.
There had to be something happening here.
I looked around at the beautiful city.
Maybe I wouldn't have to wait until I got back to London to find my story.
Maybe the story that would win me that promotion was already here.
