Soon they sprouted wings of their own and lifted off the page. The words continued to shimmer and glow. They cast their light over all the space around me. They filled my eyes with visions: globules of light and pulsing phosphenes of energy. When I woke, I was no longer being carried aloft. The air around me was dark, as though I was in a place touched by dusk. My feet were buried under me in a painful manner and angle. I shifted myself from side to side, in an attempt to straighten myself out. My hands touched rough material around me. It felt like straw or sticks. Maybe some other kind of plant. Also feathers.
