She tried to stand up and then realised as she did so how weak she felt. She almost fell and Quintus Tiverton’s arms went round her. “You are faint. I will bring you some brandy.” “I will fetch it,” Lord Howdrith said. “You will find it in the dining room,” Quintus Tiverton told him. As Lord Howdrith went from the room, he helped Selina to the sofa, laying her head back against the satin cushions. “They have – taken the money – all of it,” Selina faltered. “I can see that,” he said grimly. “They did not hurt you?” “No – they only tied me up – but it was very – frightening.” “I am sure it was.” Lord Howdrith came hurrying back into the salon with a glass of brandy in his hand.
