By the time Rowan got to the hospital, he found Lily perched on an ER bed eating macarons. Not a thing wrong with her but a little scrape on her elbow.
For a second, anger sparked in him. He felt played. But the moment the tears came welling up on cue, he swallowed it and gentled his voice.
"Baby, stay here and rest. I'll come see you tomorrow. I need to go back to the estate and finish the engagement ceremony first."
The instant he finished, his assistant called with relentless urgency.
"Mr. Cavendish... something terrible has happened! Ms. Hart... she knows about Lily!"
