Chapter 8Cade berated himself the entire way home. Sam occasionally whined as if to try and let his master off the hook, but Cade knew he’d really stepped in it. He had no business going there with anyone, much less Tess. She was Ed’s granddaughter, one of the votes they needed for their plan and a well-respected member of the community. Add to that the fact that he just plain liked her, and he needed to keep his distance. The problem was that he couldn’t.
