Chapter 8Cade berated himself the entire way home. Sam occasionally whined as if to try and let his master off the hook, but Cade knew he’d really stepped in it. He had no business going there with anyone, much less Tess. She was Ed’s granddaughter, one of the votes they needed for their plan and a well-respected member of the community.
Add to that the fact that he just plain liked her, and he needed to keep his distance. The problem was that he couldn’t.
Setting aside his promise that he’d help her with her training and her life in general for the next seven weeks, he didn’t think he would be able to stay away from her. In his entire life he’d never met anyone who took so much on for so many people without a single thought for themselves.
