On The Road To Health

1071 Words
After a week of being committed to the hospital Yara was doing great. Eating like normal and starting to act like her old self. So, she was sent home under my supervision. Aiofe was in a coma, not waking up after his surgery. The doctor said it was related to his age. I never quite understood what he meant until Yara explained that some wolves live longer than other. As Yara was in her early sixties, Aiofe was a hundred and thirty three years old. It was normal for a wolf to age between a hundred and ten to a hundred and twenty, but only a few grew abnormally old. He would be fine, but it would take a little longer than it would take a average aged wolf to heal and wake up. He spent four months in the hospital before he woke up. He looked much older after waking up after everything that he went through. Not soon after everything was back to normal. As I got back from training, Yara informed me that a pack meeting would be taking place shortly. I quickly went to shower to attend the meeting. When I got outside I took a seat next to Yara while Aiofe stood on the podium to adres the pack. "Good morning pack members. I thank you all for attending the meeting today as I know it was very short notice, but I promise it will not take long as I know you all have other matters to attend to. You all know of the betrayal of beta Ezrin and his brother. If not for Alcina, me and your Luna would be dead. I am old, and I am tired. I have decided that it is time for me to retire. I am proud of what we as a pack have build together over the years. I am grateful for your loyalty and support, and now that I am stepping down I hope that you can do the same for the new leader I have chosen. I have spoken to the council and they have given permission for all the changes that is about to happen. " he delivered the news with pride and accomplishment. Looking happier than I have ever seen him. " Excuse the intrusion my alpha, " one of the members said," but, who have you chosen? Not to be insensitive but you have no children? How will you determine who the alpha should be?" "Well, that is easy. I have no children of my own blood but, I do have a daughter. Alcina will be your new alpha. Me, and the council believes that she is fit and ready and anyone that disagrees is more than welcome to leave the pack." he turned around looking at me with a smile while I sat there in total shock... Alpha... Me? How could the council agree. Never has a female been appointed as alpha. If your first born was female and second born male, then the alpha position would be passed to the male. Aiofe kneeled before me. "I could not give this position to anyone else my daughter. I know you are more than capable. I know that you will lead with a fair and kind heart,"he said giving me a hug. When we entered the house I was still in shock, not really knowing what to say to Yara and Aiofe. " I presume you are a little shocked Alcina," Yara said smiling. I looked up at her." I don't think shocked justifies what I am feeling Yara," I said a little nervous looking at my hands. "We know we suprised you a little Alcina. If I had spoken to you beforehand you would have said no, and I do not want anyone else running this pack except you. You are the only person I trust to do it right," Aiofe said in a reassuring voice. "Will you help me Aiofe? I do not think I will be able to do it alone," I said a little unsure of myself. "My dear, I am here whenever and wherever you need me. I will teach you everything you need to know," he kissed me on my head and left the room without saying another word. The next morning my alpha training started. Aiofe was going through everything. Paperwork, scedules, warrior training, the laws and everything a normal alpha would need to know. Aiofe said that was the easy part. The hard parts would come when hard decisions had to be made. He said I would endure war, politics and would have to bury many wolves in the time that I would be alpha. I would also have to fight a lot. It wasn't a surprise to me as I have seen everything that he had to endure when I first arrived in the pack. People from the outside challenging him for his position. But he never gave up and kept fighting without stopping. He was a good alpha. And I aspired to be the same. Time passed and I worked hard to learn from him. It was not always easy but when he thought I was ready he took Yara and they moved to a cozy little cottage in the villiage. He assured me that he would always be there when I had any questions. They enjoyed their retirement. I did not see them that often as always because I was so busy running everything but we decided that each Sunday evening, we would dine together to catch up on everything. It gave me the opportunity to eat properly bacause I could not cook for s**t! "Good evening guys, how was your day and week? How is retirement treating you?" I smiled arriving at Yara and Aiofe's house greeting then excited. "We are doing well, thank you my dear. How are you?" asked Yara. "I am very busy. Now I understand why I only saw Aiofe in the mornings. I am struggling a bit with something though. Aiofe would it be fine if we spoke after dinner?" I asked hoping he would help. "Of course my dear, let's eat and then we can get right to it," he smiled and winked at me. We ate together chatting and joking around and by the time we finished it was after midnight. I decided to stay the evening and would talk to Aiofe the next morning.
