24 Voran’s eyes took several minutes to make sense of the bizarre surroundings. The first thing he saw was a hearth, but it wasn’t in the middle of the room. It was in an indentation in the wall, surrounded by a brick-layered pipe that led up to the paneled ceiling, and apparently allowed the smoke to leave the room by expelling it through the roof.
