Chapter 6

“Mabel table six has been waiting for some minutes for someone to take their drink order” the manager on shift Steve said as he walked by me heading over to the hostess stand. “ I’ll be right over”, I replied. Moving over to table six two men were seated there and I recognized the pair immediately. They came in once a week and they were good looking. They looked impeccably dressed wearing button-ups, rolled at the sleeves to reveal their veiny arms. From their appearance you could tell they were rich men, they made a great duo. “Hi my name is Mabel and I’ll be serving you tonight”, I greeted them offering them a wide smile. “Can I start you off with something to drink”?I asked, wondering if I sounded as depressed as I felt. This past week had been an emotional roller coaster for me, with the whole Macy and Toby drama, I hadn’t even had a decent sleep since that incident. “A shot of lagavulin for me, Mabel”, the man who sat at the right said, He was the broader one and he had piercing ocean blue eyes. He was so good looking that I couldn’t even take my eyes off him. “What? Never seen a drop dead gorgeous man before”? He said in an irksome voice when he noticed me staring at him shamelessly. I was mortified, I just wished I could disappear into thin air. At this point I disliked him instantly, it was so obvious he was mannerless. Ignoring him my eyes darted to the other man who was trying to suppress his laughter. “What can I get you sir” I asked the other man “I’ll have a glass of ice water”. he said. “Your drinks will be available in a minute”. I said walking away from their table.” “Mabel table two and eight are dirty, go wipe up those tables”,the manager called out to me again. I groaned. Working here really sucked. It sucked hard. However the money I made didn’t suck, since it was a high-end restaurant for even high-end people, I made a good sum of money every shift I worked. So even though I played the roles of five different employees why the other workers barely did their job, the money kept me going. I could deal with my manager being a weird creature, I could deal with the creepy, old businessmen trying to hit me up every time. I went to the dirty tables to wipe them, just as the manager instructed. I totally forgot about the men on table six, they had finished their drinks already and it was time to take their food order. This night wasn’t going so well, maybe it was because I wasn’t really at a good place emotionally. “I’m so sorry”, I said immediately lowering my head when I went back to their table”. “Hyperboles aside, you have been gone for fifteen minutes”, icy blue eyes said with a disapproving look. “Do you usually let your customers wait this long before you take their food order”? I was about to open my mouth and reply, but I was already cut off guard by his curt words to say anything. “Sorry” I said again. “Sorry wouldn’t make up for my time you have wasted”, I have more important things to do than sitting here and waiting for you, he shot back. I honestly tried to resist the urge to roll my eyes at him, was he on his period or something?. I didn’t get why he was so paranoid. The other man seemed to be more calm and collected. “ Tristan calm down, the young lady has a lot of customers to attend to, you should be a lot more considerate” the other guy said in a light tone, he seemed to be kinder and more respectful. I gave him a grateful smile, at least he was a more sensible person than the Tristan guy with piercing blue eyes, ugh what was even with me and those eyes? I was just trying to recover from a messy breakup, admiring a guy should be the least thing to do, considering the state I was in presently. “What would you like to eat”?I asked. I’ll have twinkies and pot roast” the other guy said. “ I’d have same”.Tristan replied. I nodded and started walking to the kitchen to get their order, when a drunk guy on table two suddenly grabbed my wrist. “Let go of me” I yelled. “How can I sweetie?,you’ve been walking seductively around me and now you have been noticed” the man said incoherently “Hey mister I have been doing my job, I wouldn’t want to be affiliated with an old shameless drunk like you” “Now watch it girl, just because you’re hot doesn’t give you the liberty to talk to me like that, I’m still a customer” I yanked his hands away from my wrist “Behave like a proper customer then, not a tout”. He disgustingly s*****d my ass while I was walking away and I was outraged, I clenched my fist and unclenched trying to stay composed. “I’ll leave you a good tip if you go home with me”he smirked, it’d be nice to have me bump into you occasionally in my bedroom, what do you think?” Okay I wasn’t having it anymore, we were beginning to create a scene and we were getting the attention of everybody. When he tried touching me again I lost it I punched him hard on his face. “You b***h” the creepy drunk spat out walking towards me. The drunk guy was about to hit me when someone held his hands, I turned behind and saw icy blue eyes, oh yeah Tristan that’s his name. “Enough”,Tristan said. The drunk man’s eyes widened when he saw Tristan. “Mr Foster” the man said in a shaky voice. He looked scared and alarmed to see Tristan “You do not touch a woman without her permission, Tristan said . “You can take your leave now, and one more thing, clear your desk by tomorrow morning, you have a questionable character and it’s a huge risk having somebody like you in my business” “Mr Foster please” the man begged, I am not usually like this, I have just been stressed and I needed to blow off some steam . “We are done Marco” Tristan said, his voice held finality. The manager came out and asked what happened, I explained everything to him telling him how the drunk guy almost assaulted me. “Mabel I need you in my office nowwwww” he stressed. I knew I was in big s**t for punching a customer “ But he deserved it” I said trying to defend myself “ We aren’t discussing this here, you know where to find me”, he said walking way. I exhaled loudly, could this night even get any more worse? “I didn’t know you were feisty”, Tristan remarked I just shrugged. Was that a compliment? Should I say thank you? His friend moved over to were we stood , “ I’m really sorry for what played out here”, hope you aren’t hurt? He asked. “I’m fine, thanks for your concern. “Anyways, I’m Ben, Tristan’s best friend he young guy said. You’ve been an amazing waitress tonight he commented. Tristan snorted at that I rolled my eyes at him giving Ben a polite smile, he was more friendlier and his eyes held warmth in them. “It was nice meeting you Ben, and maybe you too Tristan, but I gotta go, my manager wants to speak to me. Tristan dug his hands into the pocket in his suit and brought out a card “ That’s my card, call me. I might need your services” he said I raised my brow up at him, I collected the card pondering on why he needed me to work for him, as long as it earned me extra cash I couldn’t care less because I was in dire need of money. “I’ll give you a call Tristan,” I said, closely inspecting the card before walking away. What a night it’s been.
