Chapter 6

The light from the corridor outside made me see his glowings orbs. I bit my lower lip to prevent myself from showing him any emotions. He looked directly into my eyes and smirked. "What? Don't stop yourself from smiling. I know you like me," he playfully said. "I like someone else," I coldly said. He raised a brow and crossed his arms. I don't know but I somehow felt another glint of irritation. "I also do, but I'm engaged to a very smart woman that's why I'm forcing myself to like her," he said. This time, I rolled my eyes. This is why I hated the fact the he's my fiancé. Too playful, cold and unexplainable. I left him in front of my closed door. I heard his footsteps behind me. When we reached the kitchen, Alayah immediately turned her gaze to us. She grinned and smiled afterwards. She's a very transparent shipper. On the other hand, Hadley just looked at Xipher seriously and then, after a few seconds, she looked away. "Don't read my emotions, Amalia," she said without looking at me. I sat down again to my spot before I left earlier. Xipher followed and sat beside me. Xylene's playful look won't leave us. I looked at her with dagger eyes but she just shrugged. I was about to continue eating when Xipher suddenly moved his chair closer to me. I saw Hadley stiffened but when she saw me looking at her, she smiled. It's not fake of course. I can read emotions that's why I'm too sure. "Why are you here?" Alayah said between her huge grin. "I'm visiting my fiancée I can't see anything wrong with that." I almost threw the fork I was holding at him. 'I don't know why Hadley was laughing too. Xylene's lips formed into an 'o' when her brother said that. "You're not allowed go here," I fired back. I can feel his skin within my arms. He's too close. I can smell his manly scent. He's not looking at me but I felt like my heart is going to pump faster than normal. "But you let me in," he answered me. "Because' you're my friend," I said. "Your fiancé,"he corrected. I heard Alayah chuckled. "Tell me the truth. Why are you here?" Alayah asked again. "I told you, I'm here for my fiancée. If you're done eating, go out," he said. "Gosh, you want to be with our friend? Maybe I'll have a niece before the wedding," she hysterically said. I choked because of her scream. They were so surprised by what happened to me and that made Xipher snatched Alayah's glass. There was water in it so he quickly handed it to me. His left hand is already at my back. He caressed my back to ease my feelings. I unconsciously took the glass of water from him and drank it. "OMG, are you okay?" Alayah worriedly asked me. I nodded and stood up. I left them in the kitchen and took my way to my room. I immediately went to the bathroom and rinsed. I shouldn’t act like this. He's already affecting me in some aspects and I can't let him invade my own little space. When I returned to the living room I found Xipher, Alayah, nd Hadley sitting on the sofa. The three still feel at home. I sighed and walked closer to them. "Hi! You're fine, now?" Alayah asked me. "Yes, I'm not sick, Al," I told her. She was about to say something again when her brother interrupted. He stood up and pulled his sister upward. "Go out, you and Hadley," he sternly said. "Why are you sending us away?" Alayah hissed. "We will talk about serious matters. So just go out, for now," he seriously said. Alayah giggled. She pulled Hadley but before they get out, she said something ridiculous. "Please be sure to make a baby!" she shouted. I blinked twice and I felt my cheeks started to heat up. I realize that Xipher didn't close my unit earlier! How dare he! That's why the two came out straight away. I looked at him badly. His eyebrows rose. "What?" he said. "You didn't close that!" I scolded him as I pointed to my door which was still open. "A thief can't enter your unit," he seriously said. "What if suddenly a murderer came in earlier," I said. "Are you worried?" he chuckled. I don’t know why he wasn’t even affected by what I was saying. I hate him! We don’t know if all of our staff are honest. "Of course, I'm worried," I shouted. "I'm here, Amalia. No one can hurt you," he said while looking at me seriously. I felt my heart pounded. He's a sweet talker huh, well, too Bad I'm not affected and I will never be! "Whatever, Captain," I told him and rolled my eyes. I closed the door and went back to the living room. He's now sitting on one of my couches. I just sat on the sofa too. Now, I wonder if what's the serious matter he's talking about earlier. "Why are you here again?" I asked him. "I told you, I'm here for you," he playfully said. I glared at him and rolled my eyes. Is there nothing he can do with his life? Why is he bothering me now? "Don't try my patience," I warned him. "Should I be scared, Lieutenant?" he smirked. "Are you playing with me, Captain?" I asked him. "No, Lieutenant Abrantes. I'm serious," he said. Suddenly my chest throbbed again. I don't know which part is he serious but damn I was affected by him again! "If you have nothing to say, you can go," I told him. He shifted and he became serious. Just by that, I was already feeling nervous. "Some Class B of another District are planning to take down our own city, Lia," he seriously said. "What? Why? We haven't failed to support them," I said. Our home is in the city. We're composed of 4 ditricts. This city is the capital and we provide their needs. They should be happy because they're living a peaceful life. While we are here, we still need to do missions just to ensure everyone's safety. "They want to get into the city," he said. "They all know it's dangerous, Xipher. Are they even thinking?" I hysterically said. This city might be too ideal and beautiful but looks can be deceiving. This is not just a simple city. It's full of dark secrets and painful past. Only those who have brave hearts and minds can surpass and live here. "You came from District 1, Lia. Am I right?" he asked me. My brows furrowed. What has the district I come from, got to do with it? Before we moved to the city I went through a few extensive trainings. My family was quite influential and my father was already on the peak of his success and promotion so we moved. "Yes, why?" I confusedly asked him. "I came from this city," he added. I can't get why he's picking up where we came from. Basically, we're already in the same District now. We're both in the same class too. "I haven't been to District 1 in a long time, Xipher. What does that have to do with our problem right now?" I wondered. "They are leading the uprising, Lia and they need someone to rule them,” he said. "What? Are they ruining it? Oh gosh! Bird brains! They're trying to ruin their peaceful lives!" I worriedly said "Your father talked to me. He's already the General and he's holding the highest role in society now, he can't have another position to the district. Your mother is also a scientist of this city. She can never have two jobs at the same time ," he said. "I'm the only hope, is that what you want to say?" I answered aloud. "Yes, Amalia. You're the only one from District one who's in a high position right now," he added. "But I can't just get a position in the District, Xipher. I don't live there anymore. I can't let them appoint me too. They definitely won't let me because they're revolting now," I worriedly said.  "We only have one choice now, Amalia," he said while looking at me. I'm willing to help the District but I don't know how. I never thought this time would come. "What is it?" I asked him. "I came from this city and you came from District 1," he said as a matter of fact. I don’t know why he keeps repeating it. My brows furrowed again and looked at him with so much confusions. "What do you want to infer, Xipher?" I confusedly asked him. "I've never been this excited before," he said and chuckled. I almost kicked him because he laughed softly. Does he still feel like having fun today? "Just tell me what's the last resort, Xipher. You can't be--" I didn’t finish what I was about to say because he suddenly spoke. His words serves to be a thunder to me and all I can do is feel my heart beating roughly. "Marry me," he said.
