Chapter 9

The stark appearance of the illuminating moon appears to be ecstatic. As I followed Xipher with my gaze, the wind started to blow more. Before he left, his eyes screamed for passion and authority. That was the catalyst for all of it. "I can't believe that I lost my sister tonight," I heard Matthew's voice. I almost forgot about his presence. This is not normal anymore. I locked up my eyes to him and all I can see and feel is pain. "I'm sorry for your loss but, rules are rules, Lieutenant," I said, trying to compensate him. "I know. How I really wish that you won't end up killing your loved ones just because of these rules, Amalia," he coldly said before leaving me with numerous questions. I never really thought about that. What if I'll end up killing the people that I treasure the most just because I'm following the rules? Come on, Amalia, don't think about that. You can trust your family and friends. They will never disobey the rules. They already knew about the consequences. "Amalia, you're safe," someone suddenly said and hugged me tight. Just by the scent of her hair, I knew immediately who it was. I smiled upon hugging her back. "I'm fine, mommy. You don't need to worry about me," I told her. She withdrew the hug but her both hands remained on my shoulders. She eyed me from head to toe. I followed the movement of her eyes and just by looking at her, I felt the very familiar happiness. "I'm really okay.I should be the one asking if you're okay or not." I pouted. She pinched my cheeks and laughed a bit. She hugged me again quickly and finally let go. She smiled at me like she's happy about something unusual again. "How can I not be okay, your fiancé saved me," she giggled. I rolled my eyes and faced her with so much uneasiness. She can just tell me that she's totally fine. "You're not supposed to show me your grumpy face, darling.you should smile and be happy. Xipher is a good man for you," she said and laughed again, wickedly. "Mom, you're too obvious that you admire Xipher. Don't be like that. We're not sure yet if the wedding will continue," I told her. "Oh no-" she gasped and covered her lips as if I told her something crazy and interesting. "It's not what you think, mommy. I'm not acting bitter here," I sarcastically told her. It's obvious that she's thinking about some deep relationship between me and Xipher. We don't even have a good relationship or even just civil treatment. "I never said a thing, Amalia. Don't be too negative, okay?" she said while grinning widely. "Whatever, mom," I said and rolled my eyes. "Oh, by the way darling, you need to rest. I will send someone for your dinner. Take care, I love you," she added the kiss on my left check. She even pinched it before she bid her goodbye. Why do I have a sweet but childish mother? I sighed heavily and took my way back to the unit. I was clearly thinking about some nonsense bullshit when I suddenly saw Alayah enter the building anxious and breathing heavily. She was still distracted as she walked secretly. The lampposts were my only source of light. I can sense deep fear and panic in her. "Alayah!" I called her. She immediately looked at me with a flustered expression. My brows furrowed as she held her chest using her right hand. "Hey," she awkwardly greeted me. "What happened to you?" I curiously asked her while trying to get closer. "I was busy because of the commotion, Lia, that's why I'm tired. Maybe I used a lot of energy," she said. I looked into the depths of her eyes. My brows furrowed again when I sensed that she's actually lying. I crossed my arms and turned my gaze to her boots. I blinked twice when I saw some ice particles behind it. "You're lying, Al. Where did you get that?" I asked her while pointing my fingers to her stained boots. "Oh, actually I followed you inside the forbidden street. Please Lia, don't tell my brother" she answered while holding my hands. I just shook my head and ruffled her hair a bit. She's really stubborn sometimes. I chuckled and pinched her cheek. My best friend is really adorable. "Fine, go clean yourself and rest," I told her. Her eyes started to glow. She hugged me quickly and kissed me on my left cheek. "You're really the best, Lia. That's why I love you," she chuckled and pulled me inside. I almost forgot that she's not living in this building. "You're not supposed to be here, Alayah. Your unit building is not here. Don't tell me you took the wrong way," I sarcastically told her. "Oh come on, Amalia. I was planning to sleep in your unit. Don't scold me, okay?" she said and rolled her eyes. I just shook my head again and let him come with me. As always, when we reached my unit, she moved around as if she's the real owner. She swiftly took her way to the bathroom. For sure, she will take a bath. I took my extra bathrobe to the cabinet. I decided to take a shower in the bathroom near the living room. It took almost 38 minutes for me to finish my routines. When I opened the bathroom's door, I saw Alayah comfortably sitting on my couch while watching some nonsense dramas. "Hey, Lia. I'm hungry," she asked me without removing her gaze to the screen. "Mom will send someone for my dinner, Al. It's up to you when you don't have anything to eat later. I'm sure it's only good for me," I mocked her. "Hey! You're actually rude.I'm hungry and tired, you know?" she pouted. "I don't care," I fired back. This time, she already looked at my direction and rolled her eyes. I chuckled because of that. She is very picky. It should always be like this, I'm not the only one who feels sorry for her teasing. I entered my room and changed. I chose to wear a simple blue night dress. I tied my hair into a ponytail as if I was going somewhere even though I didn't have anything. When I went out of my room, I saw Alayah in the same position earlier. She's now in a deep concentration. I just raised my eyebrow because she was watching another love story. I sat beside her and that made her squirmed a little. She lost a few seconds of concentration when she looked at me quickly. "Are you expecting someone to come, Amalia?" she teased me again while looking at my bare face. "No," I plainly said "Maybe my brother will come here so you're making yourself beautiful," she mocked me while trying to stifle a smile. "Never," I answered She chuckled and decided to stop teasing me. After a few minutes of silence, we heard the doorbell rang. I stood up and took my way to the door. I opened it only to find out that it was Xipher. "What are you doing here?" I asked him. He raised a brow and showed me the paper bag he was holding. It's as if he's trying to talk to me using his bare actions. "What's that?" I obviously asked him. "You're asking me an obvious question, Amalia. Do you still want me to tell you the answer?" he said and grinned widely. "No, thanks. Just come in," I told him. He chuckled before he entered my unit. "You're starting to be a kind, future wife. I'm honored because of that," he added before he finally took his way to the living room. I blinked twice after he said that. My heart began to pound irrationally. "You have your own unit, Al. Why are you here again?" he scolded his sister when he saw her. "Don't talk to me. I'm really busy," she said without looking at her brother. "I didn't bring you anything to eat. Go home," Xipher added. "What? Then just cook for me. Please, I'm also hungry." she pouted. "Go home," he sternly said and entered the kitchen. "Lia, your fiancé is very cold hearted," she told me. I just shrugged and chuckled. I followed into the kitchen to eat. After a few more seconds, Al sat down next to me. Her older brother looked at her as he seriously arranged what he had brought. "Go home," he said again. "You can just cook for me," Alayah added without minding her brother's irritation. "Do you want me to scold you more?" he asked. He's really like this when it comes to her sister and despite that, I know that he loves her. "You just want to marry this best friend of mine. Shut up there. I'm watching over it," she teased her brother. "Just let her stay. I can just cook for my dinner," I told him. I almost slapped myself because apart from being lazy, I didn't know how to cook! I was about to stand up when he stopped me . "Stay there, I'll cook for you," he said smoothly. "Wow," Alayah interrupted but her brother didn't mind her anymore. "He's literally insulting me," I hissed "No, I'm trying to become a good future husband," he answered ang gave me a serious look.
