SVETLANA'S POV
I stormed into the house with a full force, I can't accept what's happening now, my heart pounding with fury. My mom, Nina, was behind me with a crinkled brow, expressing a hostile sentiment.
I could hardly believe it. She was really going to marry that man, I can't believe it, that devil that took my father away from me, not months ago. "Mom, are you really being serious?" I called out, my loud voice echoing through the hallway. "You can't marry him! He killed my father!"
She stopped in her tracks and turned with a glare toward me. "Svetlana, you don't understand. I must do this for us. Alpha Mattias can give us a better life."
"A better life?" I sneered, shaking my head. "That man is a monster! He killed my father. How can you think of marrying him?"
"Your father was weak," she berated me, her voice almost rising above the walls. "He couldn't protect us. He was a rogue, an outcast. He was not fit to live in this world."
Her words resonated with the force of a punch. How could she say such things about my father? He had fought for what he believed in; he loved us. He was not weak. He was brave. "You're wrong! You're just trying to convince yourself that this is okay."
"I don't want to argue anymore," she said coldly. "If you can't accept this, then pack your bags and leave. I will no longer take care of you."
“Fine! If that's how you feel, then I will leave!” I yelled back. Rage was seething inside me. I was not going to let her win. I would not allow her to make that choice for me.
However, I had nowhere to go, so I obeyed.
On our way to the mansion, silence and tension filled the car. I was looking out the window at the trees and houses whizzing past, and I couldn't help thinking about the last occasion I had gone home. That night had a spot forever etched in my memory.
I remembered walking in and running across my father's lifeless body on the floor. It was raining that evening, and I had just arrived from school. The house was very quiet, my heart was pounding, and somehow I felt uneasy feelings. When I found him, it felt like my world had shattered into so many pieces.
There he was lying on the floor, cold as ice, and there I was thinking it is my father, whom I would never see again. I had screamed. I was completely lost. My mother was out there, living her life while I was left to endure this agony in complete horror all alone. I could never feel this powerless.
As I was sitting in the car, memories started flooding in. I clenched my fists while fighting the tears. I would not allow my mother to carry me away from all I had left of him.
The moment my gaze caught the mansion, my heart sank. The house was gigantic, elegant, and intimidating. It was easy to see other cars parked outside. That lent a little more to my feelings of dread within. I didn't want to be here.
The moment we entered inside, a chill ran down my spine. The aura of the place took all the confidence out of me. I looked around, trying to gather my thoughts when the sound of laughter etched in from the other room.
“Leaping to go meet Alpha Mattias,” my mother said brightly. At the force of the words, my heart was pounding so hard, and I was not even ready for what would come next.
I entered into the living room alongside her but froze. With smug expressions, there stood Clinton, Cleff, and Clyde—the triplets who had harassed me at school! My eyes just could not believe it.
“No… tha-wha-” I muttered under my breath shamefully.
“Welcome, Svetlana!” Clinton said with a mocking smile on his face. “Seems like we’re going to be family.”
“Family?” I repeated, my voice trembling. “You must be joking!”
Clyde stepped in, eyes twinkling in amusement. “Not a bit of it. You may want to get used to that.”
The walls seemed to be closing in on me. It was my worst nightmare in full thrilling street-light. How could my mother do such a thing! I was trapped in a house with the very people who had bullied me for so many years.
“Mom! You can't let them be my brothers!” I cried out, panic rising in my chest.
Facing me with a hard expression, she declared, “It’s too late, Svetlana. You have to accept this. You can’t keep running from your life.”
I shook my head, my heart filling with desperation. “I won’t accept it! I won’t be a part of this family!”
“Enough!” my mother bellowed, the sound filling the entire room. “You will do as I say, or you will leave. Your choice.”
I felt like I was slipping out of control. I wanted to scream, to fight, but I knew better. I was stuck here, a hybrid in a world that did not need me.
I looked back at the triplets, whose eyes now glimmered with amusement, as though they were deriving pleasure from it. They had always enjoyed watching me suffer, and now it was happening all over again.
"Welcome to your new life, sister," Cleff sneered, eyes shining with mischief.
I drew in a deep breath to steady myself. I would not give them the satisfaction of breaking me again. I am stronger now. I had promised myself I would fight back, and I would somehow escape from this nightmare.
Yet in the back of my mind, a frightful thought gnawed at me: maybe I had wandered right into a trap I had set for myself. I had to watch my steps. I needed to hatch a plan.
We stood there; the thick tension in the air made me realize that this was only the beginning of my battle. I would not let them control me; I would reclaim my life at any cost.
