Dino had Lilly and I sit as far in the front of the jet as one could possibly get. I think it was because he could see everything we were doing without actually having to be anywhere near us.
We had been waiting on Dom and Angelo for well over an hour and by that time, my hunger had come back ten fold but I was too scared to ask anyone to do anything about it.
"We need to do something, Chloe. I don't think I can take another day of being here," Lilly whispered.
"You're telling me but there isn't anything we can do right now. We have to be smart about this or our chances are just going to get smaller and smaller."
The jets engines started to turn on and I had a sneaking suspicion that Angelo and Dom had boarded. I turned around to see that my suspicion was in fact, correct.
Dom quickly sat next to Luca and Dino as Angelo sat on the other side by himself, our eyes locking. "Come here," he mouthed the words angrily and pointed to the open spot next to him.
I thought about pretending like I didn't see the little gesture but knew that if I did that, he'd just have Luca or someone extract me from my seat to put me by him so I got up and slowly took the empty spot in between him and the window.
"Ten million is a lot of money," he said, referencing the reward my dad had offered for me, the excitement clear as rain in my eyes, "Too bad I don't need it," he said the last part of his sentence with so much pride I found it disgusting. I should have known he would say something like that.
Who didn't need ten million dollars?
"Why can't you just take it and be on your way? What do you gain from having to take me with you everywhere you go? You wouldn't rather just kick me to the curb and not have to worry about trying to hide a celebrity's daughter from the world?"
"As much as I would love to get rid of you, it's not as simple as that. You've seen where I live, where deals are made, you even know about Italy now, so no Chloe, I can't just throw you back into the world with the knowledge that you have," he seemed angry, like on the verge of yelling at me angry so I sank into my chair and tried to make myself seem smaller. Maybe he would go easy on me.
Probably not.
"My sister knows everything that I do and probably even more and she gets to walk around freely? How does that make any sense?"
"It doesn't have to make sense to you. You're not in charge!" He yelled the words and that actually made me angry now.
Dom walked up to us, inspecting the scene, "You good? Do I need to move her?" He asked Angelo and he actually f*****g nodded back at him.
I got up just as Dom was about to grab me and then I got in Angelo's face. I was not done yet, "I'm going to get out of here whether the cops get to me first or not."
His eyes narrowed into little slits, daring me to try to do anything.
_____
This was some sort of cruel joke, I knew it was. It had to have been. There was no way I was going to have to stay in an apartment with Angelo for the rest of my life.
I guess the Mafia house was now completely off limits to me but I obviously had to be homed somewhere so apartment life it was.
We stood in a high rise, luxury apartment in the heart of Manhattan. It had incredible floor to ceiling windows with the most amazing view of the city, a city I never wanted to live in and hated even more now. It was beautiful though, I would give it that.
I walked around the apartment as Angelo talked to the realtor. His name was Benny and he was apparently Luca's cousin. He didn't look anything like Luca though, complete opposite actually. Luca was very fit and kept up with his appearance whereas Benny was short, round and grimy looking. I wouldn't really expect Angelo to have a realtor that looked the way Benny did but then I remembered his options were probably pretty limited given his career choice.
I left them in the living area and wandered across the apartment to the sleeping quarters. It was a two bed, two bath and I secretly thanked God for that. I didn't know if I'd be able to sleep another night within the same five feet of a selfish mafia man, pretending that all was well with the world.
I opened one of the double doors to the master bedroom, already claiming it as mine. I was definitely a prisoner here but I didn't have to live like one.
I marveled at the room and it's size, it was equally as large as the living room for sure. I liked that this place was already fully furnished because there was no way I was going to go furniture shopping with Angelo.
There was a King sized bed fitted with a ruched white duvet and gray floral decorative pillows on top. Over head hung a massive black and white painting of New York City's skyline, tying together the rooms grayscale theme.
There were other bits of furniture like mirrored nightstands and a fireplace tv stand hosting one of the largest televisions I had ever seen.
Yes, this was going to be my room.
I didn't even have to look at the en suite bathroom to make my final decision.
"Ah, I see you've found my room," Angelo walked in, his arms crossing over his chest as he smirked towards me.
I rolled my eyes and looked away from him. He could think what he wanted but at the end of the day when he was surprised to be locked out of this room, he would only have himself to blame for that. "I haven't looked at it yet but I'm sure the other one is more fitting for you."
It felt like I already lost this battle completely.
________
I laid awake, staring up at the ceiling for probably the third hour in a row now. The tv in Angelo's room blared, further worsening my struggle.
I gripped the side of my blanket and rolled over, wrapping myself up in it even tighter. It was freezing in here and I was far too lazy to get up and turn the thermostat up, so I laid there even longer, suffering.
I let out a frustrated groan before throwing the blanket off me and getting out of bed. The cold wooden floors against my bare feet sent a shiver down my spine as I hurriedly left my room. Angelo was probably sleeping at this point but the noise coming from his tv would make it impossible for me to do the same, so before I went to turn the heat up, I snuck into his room.
His was face down in his pillow, passed the f**k out. It looked like he was getting his first decent sleep in years.
I also couldn't help but notice that he was not wearing a shirt.
Those back muscles though.
Those muscles period.
He had his arms under his pillow but I could see a faint marking on his upper arm.
Well, curiosity killed the cat I guess.
I slowly moved over to him and pulled the covers back just a little so that I could see the full tattoo. It looked like the devil or a demon of some sort, oddly fitting I thought.
I was about to move the blanket back where it was when Angelo's eyes slowly cracked open. I smiled nervously at him, scared that he would not be happy with me but I was surprised to just hear him groan before rolling over onto his other side. "Go to bed, Chloe."
I caught a glimpse of what was playing on the tv and immediately decided that I would not be going back to my room any time soon. I got on the bed and crawled over Angelo, even though I easily could have walked around, just to piss him off. I scooted myself up against the headboard and brought my knees to my chest, "You should have turned your tv off if you wanted me to go to sleep. I love this show."
Forensic Files was my s**t.
I had a strong feeling I was about to end up on this show if I didn't go to sleep though.
All the more reason to stay.
Angelo looked at me through drowsy eyes as he rolled over onto his back and ran a hand down his face, "You can't sleep?"
I nodded as he rolled out of bed, disappearing into the dark bathroom.
He got back into bed moments later and handed me a white pill.
I looked at him like he was completely stupid, "You really think I'm dumb enough to take some random drug you gave me?" I shook my head, "No thank you. It's probably a date r**e pill," I grumbled.
"You literally crawled into my bed. With me in it!"
I gave him another heated look before throwing the pill in my mouth and swallowing, "Touché, Mr. Mafia."
