I sat in one of the ragged leather chairs in Angelo's office while he stood a couple feet away from me with his hands crossed over his muscular chest. I wondered if he was always this upset, or if he had just been having a rough couple of days because I had literally never seen him do anything but look angry.
"Was Luca able to stop Tony in time?" He asked and I swear to god I saw a hint of concern flash through his deep brown eyes. It was probably just me though.
I mean yes, he was able to stop Tony before anything else happened, but nothing should have ever happened in the first place. I shouldn't be in this situation at all and I couldn't help but blame Sienna for all of it. If she wouldn't have been so caught up with her stupid boyfriend, I never would have had to leave the beach house and I definitely wouldn't have gotten swooped up by some sleazy mobster.
I shook my head at his question nonetheless. It didn't matter how far he got, I still felt violated and he could never do anything to take that feeling away. I started to choke up again at the mere thought of it.
He unfolded one of his arms and ran his hand down his face in frustration. "I know it won't mean very much to you and it's very understandable, but I am sorry that happened and he will be punished greatly for it. We live a life of crime yes, but that's not what we do around here. It's completely unacceptable."
He was right, it literally meant nothing to me. I was willing to bet my family's entire fortune that he would get nothing but a slap on the wrist. Punished greatly, my ass.
"You are safe now. Nobody else is going to hurt you while you're here," he said, just barely above a whisper.
"I'm not safe here," I said as a single tear slipped from my eye. "And I'll never be safe here no matter what you say. I want to go home. I know my family is already looking for me."
"They're not," he shook his head. "Sienna told your dad that you're staying in New York with her for awhile."
The words took me by complete surprise. Why would she do that to me? She must not know what it's like to live under this roof because if she did, she wouldn't have ever done that. "But...he'll know something is wrong if he doesn't hear from me. Me and my dad are really close...he'll know she's lying."
Angelo gave me a look that said he didn't quite believe me, "Well...as of right now he doesn't think anything is wrong and that's probably how it will stay for awhile. I wish I could just let you go, but I can't. I don't trust that you'll never say anything about us to anybody. I know you will. I would if I were you."
"You're completely right," I mumbled. "What about Lilly? What happens when her face is all over the news and people go looking for her?"
"I don't think you're aware of how many people Tony takes off the street. We know how to make someone be forgotten so that it doesn't come back to us and that's exactly what we'll do with her. You're just a special case because you come from a famous family."
I watched as Angelo crossed his arms over his chest again and then looked towards the door. He probably heard the same thing that I did; heels aggressively clanking on the hardwood floor. "Oh mio Dio," he mumbled under his breath as the office door was pushed open and that Italia girl stormed in.
She was attractive yes, but she seemed to have a shitty personality so it really didn't matter. She was very petit, with straight, long ash brown hair that stopped at her midriff. She was currently wearing a body hugging, mini black dress that left her chest on full display and made her boobs look bigger than I'm willing to bet they really were.
She was one of those girls. Insert eye roll where you may.
"I need to talk to you," she said after looking between me and Angelo a couple of times. "Now."
"Go away, Italia. I'm done with this conversation."
"I'm. Not," she said before looking right at me, "Leave now. Tony's probably looking for you," she seemed way too pleased by that.
Angelo was about to say something when Dom popped his head into the room. His eyes went wide as he saw Italia. He probably couldn't believe he was walking in on something like this for the second time in one night.
Angelo made a face at him that said 'what now' and ushered him into the room.
"Marino found Tony. He wants to know what you want him to do with him," Dom stood up straight and relayed the information before giving Italia a disgusting look behind her back. I definitely didn't know her like these people did, but the action seemed warranted.
"Have him bring him to me. Take Chloe and Lilly to Luca and then come back here."
"Got it."
_______________
We were in Luca's room with him; me and Lilly on the bed and Luca on the couch that was off to the side, underneath a window. They had both passed out a long time ago, but I couldn't sleep. It was probably because I couldn't stop thinking about tonight, but I was going to tell myself it was because both Lilly and Luca were snoring like f*****g pigs.
I sat up and slowly slipped out of the blanket so that Lilly wouldn't wake up. She probably wouldn't have anyway, the girl could sleep through almost anything. I got out of bed and quietly walked into the adjoining bathroom to get a drink of water, and once again realized that this place didn't have random cups laying around. Defeated, I turned the light off and walked back into the bedroom.
"You ok, blondie?" Luca's muffled voice made me jump out of my skin.
I nodded whilst sitting on the ottoman at the end of the bed, "Yeah, I just can't sleep."
He sluggishly pulled himself into a sitting position and switched the lamp that was next to him, on. "Do you wanna talk about it?" He kind of laughed at the question and I wasn't sure whether or not that made me feel worse or slightly better.
I brought my knees up to my chest and hugged them before shaking my head, "Not really."
"Well, if it makes you feel better, Tony's literally getting the s**t beat out of him right now. I'm not kidding when I say that r**e gets taken very seriously here."
"Why though?" I asked, "Why is that held to a higher standard than literally anything else? You guys are criminals."
Luca looked up at the ceiling, debating whether or not he should tell me whatever story is most likely associated with this, "f**k it. Angelo already hates me," he leaned forward on the couch, his elbows resting on his knees. "So before Angelo was the Boss, his dad, Rafael, was. I don't really know how you feel about Angelo, but he's a d**k, and his dad is like 12,000 times worse than him. Back when Rafael was Angelo's age, he met Gianna, Angelo's mama. She's the sweetest lady. He kidn*pped her to get back at her family or something and decided to keep her for himself. He r***d her, and then Angelo was born. He forced the poor woman into marriage because he wanted her to be miserable and he knew that's what was going to set her off. Angelo grew up seeing his mom abused, so I'm guessing that's why the punishment is so severe. It's a trigger."
This Rafael guy sounded like a real class act. "What happened to him...Rafael?" If he was worse than Angelo, I wasn't so sure I wanted to be around when he was.
"Don't worry about it, he's long gone. We casted him out."
A silence fell over us, but it was comfortable. I started thinking of other things I could ask him since he seemed very open and willing to answer any questions I might have.
"Why does Italia seem so far up Angelo's ass?" I laughed at the question. "Are girls even allowed to be in the mafia? I've literally only seen her."
Luca shook his head, "No, girls can't join. She's not part of us but she thinks she is. Between you and me blondie, I think she's a f*****g spy. Her daddy's the Boss of the di Rossi Family and since you're going to be here for awhile you should definitely know that those people hate our guts. Always have-"
"And yet her and Angelo are getting married?"
"Oh hell no. When you got pulled into his office, Dom told me about their fight. Shits cancelled dude, and she's going to be out of here in no time."
"Oh wow, so that's why he's so pissy."
"Probably has something to do with it."
