Cheating

Emily Gray lifted her head to look at the sky. Stars were glittering creating an illusion of a picturesque night view. A pale crescent moon shone at one corner of the sky. In that vast starry sky, a flying airplane was like an ant crawling on a giant wall. Emily Gray looked at the airplane and shed tears quietly. She pulled up the thin blanket, curled up in a ball on the armchair on her balcony. Last night was terrible for her. She went to city Viro to give a surprise to her husband. After six months she was going to see him. This was the first time she went outside of Oakland and it was also her first time traveling by airplane. She was a little scared. But when she thought of her husband’s smiling face her fear diminished. She took a deep breath and murmured “Emily, you can do it.” The plane started running. Initially, the speed was low, but slowly the pace increased. Emily Gray held the armrest tightly closing her eyes. Within a few seconds, the plane was in the air. She slowly released her grip around the armrest and looked outside through the window. The view was breathtaking. The entire town of Oakland was visible from there. The buildings were like stacks of matchboxes. The cars running on the road were like toy cars. She smiled and enjoyed the scene. Slowly the visibility of the ground became blurry as the airplane started flying higher and higher. She leaned back on the seat and closed her eyes. After a few hours, she would be in the arms of her husband. This thought made her blushed and her lips curled up subconsciously. A few hours later the flight landed in city Viro. Compare to Oakland, Viro is a developed and advanced city. Many multinational companies and industries were blooming in Viro. Emily Gray was looking around in a trance to the hustling and bustling city in front of her. She was amazed by the beauty of the city and also felt proud that her husband was working in such a big city, though he never brought her there before. It was half-past 4 in the afternoon. She took out a piece of paper where she wrote the address of his office once he gave it to her. She then took a taxi from the airport and gave the address to the driver. After more than an hour of drive, she reached in front of a gigantic building of ‘Dynamic Groups’ where her husband works. When she approached the building the security guard stopped her. He told her as their company achieved a big goal recently, the CEO was throwing a party, so there was no one in the office. Emily Gray asked him if he could give her the address where the party was going on. He wrote something on a piece of paper and handed over to her. She looked down and saw ‘Hazel’s’ written on the paper. He told him that it was the most popular 7 stars hotel in the city of Viro. She thanked the guard again and again and took a taxi from there to Hazel’s. When she reached there she was staring at the luxurious building in astonishment. She never saw such a beautiful hotel in her life. People coming and going out were all rich people. They were wearing branded and designer suits. Emily Gray felt embarrassed. She looked down at herself. She was wearing a pair of trousers and a t-shirt with a knee-length overcoat. She felt alienated among the people around her. She came there to give a surprise to her husband. He would be very happy when he saw her. After thinking like this she took a deep breath, gathered her courage, and walked to the entrance. The two security guards blocked her way and sized her up. Then one of the security guards said “This is a luxurious hotel, no baggers are allowed here. Go away.” Emily Gray was a little angry with the behavior of the guard. She said “I am here to meet my husband. His company is throwing a party here.” The guards were aware of the party. The other guard asked her to show the invitation card, but she didn’t have any. The guard stopped her as she couldn’t show the invitation card. Without an invitation card, no one can attend the party. She was disappointed. She thought she would call her husband. But after thinking something she didn’t call him, in fact, she waited outside the gate hoping that once he came out of the hotel she could meet him.  She was standing outside the gate and enjoying her surroundings. All were very new to her and she couldn’t help but appreciate the decorations of the hotel. While she was looking around a few black cars followed by one Rolls Royce arrived at the hotel in a row. After that, some cameramen and reporters also came out from nowhere. Emily Gray was curious. She went closer to look. She thought might be some celebrities came there. She never saw any film stars or other famous personalities so close. She was excited. Few men in black suits came down from the black cars and one of them opened the door of Rolls Royce. From the car, one handsome man in his early thirties came out. He had a tall lean figure. His eyes were green and his nose was sharp. His chiseled jawline showed a perfectly defined facial structure. He looked strong and confident. He was wearing grey suits which made him look more handsome. When Emily Gray saw him a wide smile appeared on her face. She was surprised to see him like this. He was her husband Austin Gray. She knew that her husband was in a good position in his company but she didn’t know that his status was so high. He looked like an emperor. She raised her hand to call him but her hand froze in the mid-air when she saw the next scene. A beautiful woman came out from the same car and Austin Gray offered her his hand while smiling sweetly at her. Emily Gray’s eyes glued at the girl beside Austin Gray. She murmured “Sheena Jones.” She was her best friend when they were in school. Her family shifted from Oakland a long time ago and after that, she had no contact with her. She didn’t think that she would encounter her in such a situation. ‘What is she doing with Austin?’ This was the question roaming around her mind. The cameras were flashing continuously and the reporters started asking questions. “Miss Jones is it true that today ‘Dynamic Groups’ is going to announce the name of the new President?” Sheena Jones wrapped her hand around Austin Gray’s arms, looked up at him affectionately, and said “Yes, It’s true.” “Is Mr. Gray is the new President?” Another reporter asked, “As you are already engaged with Mr. Gray when will we get the news of your marriage?” Austin Gray was looking lovingly at Sheena Jones and answered “Very soon you will get all of your answers.” They then strode to the hotel holding each other’s hands. The reporters wanted to chase them but they were blocked by the bodyguards. Emily Gray was shocked as if the sky had fallen on her head. Austin Gray, her husband got engaged with another woman and was getting married to her? What was going on? She thought that they were in love and they were inseparable, then where and when things went wrong? She was puzzled. Her legs wobbled and she fell to the ground. Two years before she got married to him. They were in love since college. He was her senior. After her graduation, they got married. Austin Gray was a brilliant student and he got a good job in city Viro after graduation. As it was more than 3 thousand kilometers away from Oakland, he lived there alone and came back home during the holidays. Emily Gray stayed at Oakland with her father in law and looked after his small family business. It had been six months since Austin didn’t come back home and she was missing him too much. She came there without informing him to give surprise but who knew that she would get the greatest shock of her life. All these days she thought her husband was very busy in his works so he had no time to come home, but she never thought that he could cheat on her. She was sitting on the ground in a daze. Her body was numb as though no senses left in it. Her brain stopped working. She regained her senses when one guard came to her and shouted “Hey you get out of here.” She tried to get up but her strength was drained away and fell down again. The guard was annoyed to see her. He grabbed her arm, dragged her away from the hotel premises, and threw her out of the main gate. Emily Gray fell down on the ground hard and she felt pain in her palms. She looked down at her palms and saw skin around there came out. But compared to the pain in her heart, this pain was nothing. She gathered her strength and stood up. She stopped in a taxi and went to the airport. She decided as he cheated on her, she won’t continue her life with him. She would give him a divorce. When she reached the airport, she bought a ticket back to Oakland. After a few hours of waiting, she boarded the plane and flew back home.
