Julieta’s pov.
Four months. It’s been four months since I came to the Alpha King’s palace, and every day has been the same routine for me, and my routine is, going to the kitchen during the daytime to assist the palace cook, and going to the Alpha King’s play room at night to pleasure him, then get kicked out after.
And I don’t eat enough food to nourish my health. The Alpha King has instructed the chef to give me just the right amount of food (very little food) that will, at least, preserve my life until I conceive his heir.
It has been raining heavily since I left the Alpha King’s play room, and the roof of this wood shed is worn out. There are large holes in different parts, in fact, there’s hole on every part of the roof from where water was leaking.
I shivered as I hugged myself tighter, as if that would keep me warm, but it doesn’t because my bed was completely soaked and the rain wouldn’t stop.
Aside from this rain, I’ve been feeling a bit sick and this rain’s just like an icing on a cake — it increased my symptoms.
“Get up” I heard someone yelled, as the wood shed’s door flung open revealing a grumpy looking guard. “Do you know what time it is?” he asked, snatching my wet blanket off and pulling me up.
I looked outside and realized it’s already morning, it’s very bright outside, but I didn’t notice because of my current health situation.
“Go and join the cook in the kitchen, or I’ll inform His Majesty of your incompetence” he threatened.
If it were to be any other day, I’d have listened to him, but I’m feeling too sick to do anything today, or at least, this morning.
I laid back on the wet bed. “Please help me, I’m not feeling so well…”
“You’re not feeling so well” he interrupted me. “Does that sound like it’s my problem to you?”
“I’ll… I’ll… “ my voice was shaking because of the cold, and I could hardly form a proper word.
“Get up and go outside” he repeated.
“I’m… I’m not feeling…”
My words were cut short when a whip unexpectedly landed on me, and I jumped up at once. Hissing in pain, I rubbed on the part where the whip had landed and blinked rapidly as I tried to blink away my tears.
“Are you still feeling sick?” he asked in a mockery tone.
Even though, I’m obviously still shivering, I shook my head negatively because I didn’t want another lash of his whip.
“Good. Now make your to the kitchen” he commanded, stepping aside and folding his arms on his chest.
Seeing as it’s useless to plead with him, I gathered my weak body and exited the room.
“Hurry” he urged while following me.
>
From the wood shed to the kitchen is a long walk if we aren’t using our wolf’s strength, it should be about a fifteen minute walk, and my weak body can’t seem to afford it — I can’t use my wolf’s strength either because she’s weaker than me right now.
“Listen, you better hurry, or you’ll be sorry” came the guard’s voice, urging me to increase my pace for the one thousandth time.
I tried to increase my pace like he wanted, but my breath suddenly became shallow, and I felt like I wasn’t breathing sufficiently. I began feeling dizzy, and before I could understand what’s going on with me, I’m already falling to the ground.
The guards reached forward to support, and that’s all I could remember before I passed out.

My eyes snapped open, but fluttered closed immediately they were stabbed by the brightness in the room.
I waited for a moment, then slowly opened them until they’ve adjusted to the brightness.
When my eyes are completely opened, I studied my surrounding and realized I’m in a room that looked like a ward — I guess I’m in the infirmary. Then two voices caught my attention, making it known to me that I’m not actually alone.
I looked towards the direction where the voices were coming from, and saw a man wearing a white coat (he must be the doctor here) and the Alpha King, with their backs facing me.
“What is wrong with her?” the Alpha King asked.
My eyes fluttered close as I saw them turning around to face me because I don’t want them to know I’m awake.
“Aside from being malnourished, she is fine, your Majesty” the doctor reported.
“Why did she pass out if she’s fine?”
Oh, really? Why did I pass out? Isn’t malnutrition enough to make someone pass out? I wanted to scream in his face, but held myself.
“About the reason she passed out, that’s just a result of her being pregnant and…”
I tuned out the doctor’s speech as one word was on repeat on my ears. Pregnant? I’m pregnant? Like, carrying the Alpha King’s heir? So, this why I haven’t seen my periods all these while.
“… it’s normal she’d have these symptoms during the early stage of the pregnancy” the doctor explained.
What did he explain? I wondered, as I only heard the conclusion of his explanation.
“Is my child healthy?”
“Yes, your Majesty. But I can’t say the same for his mother, she is malnourished and should be…”
“I don’t care about her” the Alpha King cut him short. “I just want to know about my child’s health, I’ll get rid of her after she’s given birth to my child”
What? I screamed mentally, and I felt my shoulders tense.
He’s planning on killing me? He wants my son to grow up without his birth mother, and under the control of a stepmother?
My flashed back to my stepfather, and how cruel he was to me after the death of my mother. No, I can’t and won’t let my son have such a life.
“Can she go back to her room now?” the Alpha King asked which almost made me frown.
Like, which room is he talking about? That wood shed? I can’t go back to that place, please say no — I mentally pleaded with him.
“No, your Majesty. I’m still observing her condition” the doctor answered, relieving my worry.
“Alright. I’ll have one of the guards outside, let him take her back to her room once you’re done with your observations”
“Yes, your Majesty” the doctor replied.
I heard their footsteps heading towards the door, I heard the door open and close, then opened my eyes slightly to peek if they’ve gone out, and thankfully, they were gone.
Springing up, I jumped off the bed and staggered as I felt a bit dizzy. I closed my eyes for a moment, inhaling and exhaling to help myself calm down.
After a few seconds, I grabbed one of the infirmary’s bedspread and wrapped it around my body as a disguise, walked towards the window and gasped when I saw how far the ground was.
*Ana?* I called for my wolf, hoping she’d answer me but got no response from her. *Ana?* I called again.
*Y-yeah* came her weak voice.
*I need you to take over, and help us escape from here*
*I can’t* she replied. *I’m too weak* she complained.
*Please try, our mate is going to kill us and take our mate*
She stayed silent for a while, but finally agreed.
“I’m sorry, baby, mummy loves you, but we must do this” I apologized to my baby as I rubbed my belly fondly.
Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes and let Ana take over. *Let’s do this* I told her, then we jumped down the window. Thankfully, we landed safely on our feet, then we made a run for it, heading directly to the nearby woods, hoping no one would notice me.
