Narrator’s pov.

“Killing your mate is a taboo, your Majesty” the oldest elder, elder Ignacio, advised Alpha King Alejandro.

After Alpha King Alejandro left the infirmary, he headed straight to the courtroom because a guard reported the council of elders had been waiting to have a discussion with him.

And he’s currently having a meeting with them, discussing his final decision on Julieta’s case after she’s given birth to his heir, and they (the council of elders) are against his idea of killing Julieta.

“I don’t need a mate as ugly as her, Ignacio, my mother wasn’t an ugly queen, and hence, I can’t accept an ugly queen either”

“Your Majesty, with all due respect, I don’t think your mate is ugly, rather she looked like someone who has been through a lot of hardships in life” another elder said, which elder Ignacio agreed with.

“Yes, I agree with Hugo” Ignacio pipes in. “You didn’t even try to get to know her, your Majesty, you didn’t give her any chance to prove her worth and simply concluded she’s ugly and doesn’t meet the requirements of being your queen”

There’s a brief silence as Ignacio studied Alpha King Alejandro’s expression. Alpha King Alejandro, on the other hand, looked as though he's in deep thoughts and had a remorseful look on.

“Beauty isn’t the only attribute a woman is supposed to possess, right?” Another elder sitting near Hugo asked rhetorically, but the elders nodded anyway. “Let’s give her a chance to show how smart of a queen she can be” he concluded and murmurs erupted among them as they began reasoning in twos and threes.

Having listened to all the elders had said, Alpha King Alejandro realized he’s been nothing but unfair to Julieta. He recalled all the humiliation he's been giving to her since her arrival, and decided, that starting from that moment, he’s going to treat her right.

After coming to a conclusion, he cleared his throat to get their attention as the courtroom suddenly became too rowdy because everyone was trying to make their points heard.

“What is your conclusion, your Majesty?” Ignacio asked.

“I have decided to treat her better, and give her a chance to…”

Alpha King Alejandro’s words were rudely interrupted as the courtroom’s doors flung open, and a man rushed in, with panic etched on his face.

“You’re interrupting a meeting, Leo” Alpha King Alejandro scolded the man, (now address as Leo), “don’t think I can’t punish you because you’re my Beta King”

Leo bowed respectfully and apologetically. “I’m sorry for my intrusion, your Majesty, but what I have come to report is of utmost importance” he said.

“Whatever it is can wait” Alpha King Alejandro replied him in a dismissal tone. “we’re having a serious discussion here”

Instead of leaving as Alpha King Alejandro wanted, Leo shook his head negatively, and that earned him a disapproving glare from the Alpha King.

“I’m afraid, but this is more important, your Majesty”

“Tell me, what is more important than this?” Alpha King Alejandro asked with a deep frown.

Leo stayed silent for a moment, he kept opening and closing his mouth, as if he’s finding it hard to speak.

“Speak” Alpha King Alejandro ordered.

Leo still couldn’t speak immediately, he kept clenching and unclenching his fists, which made Alpha King Alejandro narrow his eyes as he’s starting to get annoyed by Leo’s hesitation to speak.

“Your Majesty” Leo inhaled deeply. “Your mate is missing” he finally dropped the bombshell.

Alpha King Alejandro sprang up at once, knocking down the desk in front of him, and his face paled as his once annoyed expression transformed into great shock.

“What do you mean she’s missing?” he asked, hoping his ears had misheard Leo’s words.

“We have searched everywhere in the pack, in and out, but we couldn’t find her” Leo report.

“What the f**k are you talking about? Why am I not understanding you?” It’s obvious Alpha King Alejandro is refusing to believe what Leo’s saying.

The elders were as shocked as their King, but while some were shocked, others were disappointed and secretly casting blame on their King for mistreating Julieta and making her run away.

“We haven’t confirmed it yet, but a pup testified of seeing her running towards the woods that led to the border, and…”

Leo’s words were cut short when Alpha King Alejandro released a loud growl, and everyone kept stopped talking and bowed in submission.

“A guard was stationed outside her ward, where is he? How did she escape from him?” Alpha King Alejandro asked rhetorically. “Get that f*****g guard before me!” he ordered.

Leo clapped his hands, and a guard walked in with his head hanging low. He knelt down, and fell on his face.

“Your Majes…”

“Shut the f**k up and tell me what f*****g happened” Alpha King Alejandro hissed at him, as he grabbed the guard’s shoulders and pulled him up, making sure his dark, narrowed eyes were looking into the guard’s scared eyes. “Where the hell is my mate and my unborn child” he growled.

“I… Your Majesty, I… I… “

“Quit stuttering and speak up” Alpha King Alejandro yelled, landing a punch on the guard’s nose. The punch was so powerful that the guard lost his balance, and fell with his nose bleeding instantly.

“I’m sorry, your Majesty, but I never left the door…”

“You never left the door? Then where the hell is my mate? Why is she declared missing?”

The guard shook his head desperately. “I swear I never left the door, I never left”

After glaring accusingly at the guard, Alpha King Alejandro turned away from him and faced Leo.

“Summon all the most skilled trackers, sniffers and gammas, and I don’t care how they are going to do it, but I want my mate and unborn child back today. Safe and sound!” he ordered, emphasizing on the ‘safe and sound’ part.

“Yes, your Majesty” with that, Leo exited the courtroom to execute the order.
