23 Water. Who would imagine the simplest most basic of elements, such a common daily part in every life of human, plant and animal, could become such a pure indulgent luxury, so desired, so intoxicating, so quenching. Bev lay in the cool spring, floating just beneath the surface, immersed in liquid healing. The water lapped at her wounds and cooled the skin on her bruised arms, legs and feet. She had crawled the last fifty feet across the sandy canyon floor. She smelled the pool long before it came into her view.
