Chapter 3: My sweet daughter

923 Words
~Diana~ “Thank Goddess, my baby girl is safe!” Diana sighed, while she dropped her knife and ran over to her daughter and hugged her tight. She held on tight for at least two minutes and then whispered “Hey baby girl, how are you doing?”.  “Not really sure mum”, her baby girl Katie whispered back, her voice breaking.  Diana closed her eyes. She had woken up with a bad feeling this morning. And then the breakfast shift came and she noticed Kate running around, without finding the time to have breakfast herself. She hated the fact that her 16 year young daughter had to work this hard already.  She held back one of her famous PB&J sandwiches. Kate loved them. Nothing better than homemade peanut butter and jelly made of blackberries she had picked herself! And then, when she was about to give it to her, she saw those two kids walk in late for breakfast. Yet again.  Brian Kendrick and David Vaughan, they would be the death of her. Or at least of her daughter. Her Kate never really accepted her status in the pack and those two boys especially were a big challenge for her. So when Kate ran in for bacon for those two, even though breakfast time was officially over and she was off duty, I was proud of her, for accepting her faith. Even though she didn’t accept it as gracefully as was expected.  I grinned at the thought of her tone of voice. Of course I reprimanded her for it, Goddess knows what would have happened if alpha Kendrick had just been in the kitchen to discuss the dinner menu with her… but she took it on the chin. so she put some extra bacon in her backpack and the PB&J sandwich she had laid aside for her. She would find it when she had her first break at school. She couldn’t stop worrying about her Kate. She felt that danger surrounded her and more than once, she had pushed away her intuïtion that told her Kate was the one. The gifted omega wolf the prophecy (or was it a curse) spoke of. Goddess, she hoped not!  And then she felt it. The first time her daughter shifted into her wolf. She had been confused, how can this be? Kate should be safe in school. Plus she only just turned 16 last week. And her mind yet again went to the prophecy. “Oh Goddess… please let Kate not be the childwolf mentioned in the prophecy.”, she thought.  She was able to mindlink with Kate. Which only worried her more, but the most important thing right now was to get Kate home safely. So she could finally have the talk she had ought to have on her 16th birthday. She just couldn’t bring herself to do so that day, with Kate being so happy. It was rare the three of them could spend time together, enjoying good food, wonderful cake and they even managed to get her a newish backpack for school. Her old one almost fell apart at the seams. She had been so grateful and happy, bless that girl! But now there was no other way, the prophecy had to be told. She mindlinked her husband, Martin. "Martin, can you come home?" He replied instantly: “Hey sweety, yeah, sure, why are you so worried?”  He always knew, even though it wasn’t normal for wolves to pick up the emotions of the person(s) you linked with, between the two of them, they always knew exactly what the other was feeling. Something before she found him as her mate, she only ever had experienced with her own mother. And now with Kate… “Martin love, something is wrong with Kate. She shifted this morning, after she was expelled from school. She ran off into the forbidden forest of all places. Can you meet us in our rooms, as soon as possible? We really need to explain things to her”. Martin stayed quiet. She could understand that, this was a lot to take in. Finally his response came. “Sure thing love, I will make sure we have some tea and cake, she must be starving!” Oh, how she loved her mate. Always just practical and as the pack's best pastry chef, she knew at least that the cake would taste heavenly! She started chopping onions. She hated feeling like this, like she could start crying any minute. Luckily with the onions she had an excuse. She really took her frustration out on those onions, chopping like crazy. And then she heard it. A small voice saying “Hey mum” and then fell quiet. She looked up and there she was. Her beautiful daughter, dressed in her PE clothes. With her golden blonde hair, tanned and athletic body, and bright green eyes, which were extra sparkly because she obviously was trying to hold back her tears. Or did she see a glint of silver in them?  Diana dropped her knife and ran to her daughter, taking her into a big, motherly, bear hug! After what felt way too short, I let go.  “Come on darling, go ahead and run along upstairs. Go take a quick shower, you need one”, she said, wrinkling her nose like she smelled something bad. “I’ll be with you in a bit, have to delegate some stuff here and then I will join you and your dad. Speaking of him, he’s probably waiting for us in our room as we speak...” Kate managed a watery smile. “Sure mum, let’s not keep dad waiting”. And quietly, she walked towards the staircase. So quiet that it broke her mothers heart.
