. . . AUTHOR’S POV Sloane had locked herself in her room for what felt like an eternity. Hours passed, stretching into a blur of time she could no longer measure. The once comforting space around her now felt suffocating, its four walls pressing in on her like a cage. The air was stale, thick with the remnants of her sobs, her grief, and the betrayal that had shattered her trust. She sat curled up in the corner of her room, her back pressed against the cold wooden floor, knees pulled tightly to her chest. Her arms wrapped around her legs like a shield, but nothing could protect her from the storm raging inside. Her body ached from crying—her throat raw, her head pounding, her chest so heavy she wondered if she would ever breathe normally again. Why? Why had he done this to her?
