CHAPTER FIVE Sadie felt tiredness threaten to overwhelm her as they drove, and she blinked rapidly against it. The snow had picked up again, along with the wind. The dancing snowflakes in front of the truck, a flurry of white against an even whiter background, were almost hypnotic in their movement. It had been hours since she had gotten any sleep, and she hadn’t eaten since yesterday evening. It was approaching mid-morning and Sadie’s stomach grumbled audibly, making her wince in embarrassment.
