It was a quite a long day. We managed to sneak out of the party without anyone noticing. Well, if anyone did noticed, they might just think it was just a random person in the party. Fortunately, Kate was not within the party at that time. To be honest, it was luck. We finished phase one and two means of escape, it remained the last phase. Escaping without the guard noticing. Well, it turned out that the guard was huge with nice muscles. I can bet he could take anyone down.
"You see what I am talking about? How are we going to escape?" I asked.
"Hey. You are wearing a mask. There is no way he is going to recognize you. “I replied.
Maybe that was the dumbest thing I said.
"Are you kidding me? I look more suspicious on this mask. “She replied.
"Just act normal like any other person that got invited into this party.” I replied. I held her hand, smiled to the guard and tried to walk out of the gate.
"Stop right there.” The man said.
"Holy s**t!" Diane whispered to me. I was nervous but I tried to act like I was not.
"Yes?" I replied.
"Why is she wearing a mask?" He asked. I thought of several excuses I could use. Which one would be the best? Before I could reply, Diane spoke.
"I have got a pimple and I look worse in it. Can you at least let me go now?" She said as she found her way to pass through the gate, leaving me alone. Maybe I was wrong, maybe she was not weak, a badass!
"I can go now right?" I asked facing the ground.
"No. “He replied. Wait, what? "Is that your girlfriend?" He asked.
"No. Let's say a friend of mine. “I lied. It was actually an enemy.
"Good for you for having a friend like that, I don't even have any. My life has been in a whole mess. “He replied. Till now, I can't figure out who started that conversation. Should I have followed Diane immediately without asking him whether or not I could go? Judging by his expressions, I could tell that he had gone through twists and turns his whole life. But that was not my business. I did not know how to sympathize with anyone neither did I know how to relate to life experiences. Even though learning was my hubby, I did not really derive joy from people telling me how their lives went. I had nothing to say, but I said anything that came to my mind.
"Oh great!" I replied. I don't know if that was the best response but I really had to catch up with Diane and there I was with a total stranger.
"My wife left me because she insisted that she no longer find me pretty. Like, who does that? You are very handsome, I can bet you can relate. “He said. Well, if he really did bet, I am afraid he would lose all his money. I could not relate to anything he was saying and I was not planning to.
"Yes sure. I have to go sir. “I replied trying to signal him.
"I know. Just a bit of hug won't hurt right?" Maybe I was wrong, he was not someone who could take anyone down. Those muscles were just for showoffs, anyone even a toddler could bring him down. Jeez! That day was pretty tough.
"Okay.” I went ahead to give him a hug. I hated physical contacts, but I managed to get through that. Like he had wanted someone to hug him, he held my hand and appreciated me. A weirdo! He had really longed for hugs.
Without hesitation, I ran out of the compound just to see Diane standing behind the wall with her hands akimbo. I walked closer to her and we took our leave. And that is the end of the traumatic means of escape just to get a damn revenge!
It was all a relief. I never thought it would have any repercussions. After several thoughts, I decided to take her to my home. I did not know what my mother would say. She had always complained that she could barely feed two grownup children not to talk of me bringing another burden to our home. It was something I could not grab. But at least she was her mother's daughter. She should be able to pity someone who had just lost one. So, unhesitatingly, I took her into my house only to see my mother and my sister giving me an ' are you kidding me?' look accompanied with a fake smile.
"Oh! Ewan. You went to a birthday party and brought home a girl. What a way of celebrating your first party!" Lily said smiling. Well, I understand what that smile meant.
"It is not really like that.” I replied.
For the very good first time, my mother made rice for dinner. It was like the world was going to end. My mother might make noodles or pasta but never rice. "Rice is expensive.” I ate rice for the first time that day. It sounds weird right. I lived fifteen years of my life without eating rice. Diane joining my family, was for the best. No words could describe how happy I was that evening. We even ate together as a family. It was the first time I discovered that I had a family and that mattered a lot.
"Wow! Diane is bringing good luck to our home. “My sister said as she was eating. My mother gave a look with a grin. She kept shut. Diane, on the other hand, was acting all holy and nice. I steadily looked at her imagining how well she could pretend.
"Your sister is cute.” She whispered to me. Oh! I was sitting next to her. I often heard people say that to someone's younger sister, not older. Alright, and that was how the day ended. Like twinkle in the eye!l
