Chapter 6

She raised an eyebrow, looking Amelia up and down, her tone full of mockery. "Purposefully walking past my room, were you? Came to see how intimate Dominic and I are? Or to flaunt your hollow identity as Mrs. Hawthorne?" Amelia lifted her eyes to meet hers, her gaze icy cold. She said nothing. But Caleb pressed on relentlessly. "Amelia, if you weren't still a little useful, I would have had Dominic throw you in prison long ago!" "Since we were kids, you've never been able to compare to me in anything! What right do you have to hold onto the title of Mrs. Hawthorne now, living the life that should have been mine? While I've been reduced to this state?" "You think accompanying Dominic for ten years can replace my place in his heart? How utterly ridiculous! Even if you stayed by his side for a lifetime, he wouldn't spare you a single glance!" Amelia looked at her like this and suddenly let out a soft laugh. "Caleb, you're terrified of Dominic ever discovering your true face, aren't you? Vicious, selfish. Wearing a mask for so long, aren't you tired?" "You!" Striking at her deepest vulnerability, Caleb's face instantly flushed bright red. Just then, footsteps sounded from outside the hospital room. A flash of calculation sped through Caleb's eyes. She lowered her voice and said, "My dear sister, some things, even if I don't want them anymore, will never be yours." As soon as she finished speaking, Caleb collapsed straight onto the cold floor. Tears immediately welled up in her eyes, her voice choked with sobs. "Amelia, I know you've never liked me but I'm terminally ill now, with only a few days left to live." "I just didn't want to be removed from the National Dance Company. I wanted to hold onto my last bit of dignity." She cried piteously, her tear-streaked face perfectly timed to meet Dominic as he pushed open the door and entered. The moment Dominic entered and saw Caleb on the floor, his expression changed drastically. He quickly stepped forward, anxiously helping her up, his voice full of urgency. "Amelia, are you alright?" Caleb leaned compliantly into his embrace. "Dominic, I just wanted to come and apologize to Amelia, to tell her about my illness, hoping she might forgive me. Maybe she's still angry with me, she just lost control for a moment." Dominic turned to look at Amelia, his gaze instantly turning ice-cold and piercing. "Amelia! You knew Amelia was ill, yet you still pushed her? Even a minor injury right now could cost her life!" "I didn't push her at all!" Amelia replied stubbornly, suppressing the grievance and fury in her heart. "There are bodyguards in the room, they can testify!" Caleb suddenly raised her hand, her eyes filled with panic as she looked at Dominic. "Dominic, my hand, it's bleeding." Dominic's pupils constricted. He scooped Caleb up in his arms and coldly threw out a line over his shoulder. "Amelia, if anything happens to Amelia, I will never forgive you!" With that, he carried Caleb and quickly left. Amelia was utterly exhausted, feeling nothing but absurdity and a deep, chilling sadness. Not long after, Dominic suddenly burst back in with several nurses. Without a word, they produced restraints and tied her tightly to the hospital bed. The coldness and ruthlessness in his eyes were something Amelia would never forget in this lifetime. Not a single degree of warmth, as if he were looking at a lifeless object. "Extract her bone marrow."
