Chapter 3

1215 Words
Leah Coming here had been a mistake. I should have stood my ground when Chloe had tried to convince me. But she had gotten me at food. I mean, I had the invitation. I could as well go just to enjoy the food. Right? But the moment I stepped in, I wanted to be anywhere else, but admist the sea of pretentiosly smiling faces. "This better be worth it, Chloe." I hissed through gritted teeth. "Chin up girl. Maybe you will meet a man who would sweep you off your feet, tonight." Chloe said from beside me as we smiled at a couple who passed by and waved at us. "Or maybe, I should just focus on why I am here. The food." I said through grittrd teeth, spotting my step mother and Andre a few feet way. They were clamoring for the attention of a man who had his back to me, but was so tall and from the way he filled out his suit, I could tell he packed some good muscles underneath. Damn. Desperate much? He looked familiar though, but I wasn't interested in finding out. I really didn't give a s**t as I spied a waiter passing with what looked like mouth-sized gourmet food. "What are you doing here?" Cold trickled down my spine at that voice, and I whirled around to see Evan standing behind me, his expression blank. My gaze fell to the faint lipstick stain on his collar and I inwardly cringed. "Who's asking?" I retorted, stuffing my mouth with another delicious bite. I turned breifly to see that the waiter had left, and instantly felt like strangling Evan. It was all his fault. "Me. And I will ask again, Leah. Why are you here? Did you steal my invitation to sneak into the gala?" I blinked, heat rising to the tip of my ears from his audacity. What the- "Why would I steal your invitation to sneak into an event, Evan?" I asked, appalled and disgusted that he would think so low of me. "It's Sir to you, Leah. I'm yout bos-" "Last I checked, I don't work for you anymore, so you are not my boss." I hissed, wishing once again, that I hadn't stepped foot in the jet. Evan looked visibly stunned at my tone, his cold expression vanishing instantly. "You may not work for me anymore. But you shouldn't be here, This event is for people above your class, not some pauper like you. So I will ask for the last time, before I call security on you. What the hell are you doing here?" We were starting to garner a few stares, and at this point, I wanted to be anywhere but near the man who towered over me. So much fo wanting gourmet food. "I was invited, Evan. The world doesn't revolve around you, so piss off and mind your business!" I snapped and turned to leave, but felt a hand clasp around my arm like a vice, effectively stopping me. "Where do you think-" "Evan, honey?" The sickly sweet voice of Racheal almost made me puke. I pulled my hand away from Evan's grip and rolled my eyes when I saw him wipe his hand on his suit like I was greazy or something. "What's going on here?" Racheal asked, her perfect smile plastered on her face, even if she was talking. "Nothing baby, I was just-" "I know you!" Racheal gasped, a bilwildered smile on her face. "You were the scretary that walked in on I and Evan kissing." A blush rose to her cheeks, and she slipped her hand around Evan's arm. "I'm sorry you had to see that, but Evan and I usually can't keep our hands off each other. Right, honey?" Evan grunted a reply, his heavy gaze on me. Racheal suddenly frowned. "I haven't seen you around ever since. Did Evan fire you for walking in on us?" she raised her gaze to him. "Honey, you told me it was fine and you weren't angry." From the little exchange, one would think she was being kind and polite, but I didn't miss the subtle glint in her eyes. Or the way she held onto Evan like he was her life source or something. She was marking her territory and making sure I understood. "I'll just let you to be then." I said after a while, suddenly feeling sick. Not from hurt, but from disgust. Once again, I turned to go, without waiting for their reply, but was stopped by Racheal's voice. Unlike Evan, her voice was high pitched and rang through the crowd. "Wait. What are you doing here? Aren't you just a mere secretary?" My stomach dropped, and the hairs at the back of my neck stood, as I felt mutible heavy gazes on me. Most if not all, maliscious. "A secretary?" "Who is she with?" "How did she get past security?" "Someone take her out!" "Security!" I never thought one person could cause me so much humiliation. But this was the third time. The third time Evan was making me the fool in front of everyone. I shut my eyes, my fingers balling into fists as I struggled internally. What was I going to do now? Or say? I was a former heiress, but at events like these, and in my kind of situation, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get the first words out before I was humiliated completely. I was still standing there, unsure of my next move, when I felt a warm hand settle on my waist and pull me into a very hard body. What- "Where have you been, Princess, I've been searching all over for you." The baritone was rich and deep, and instantly sent butterflies swarming low in my belly. I gasped, my head spinning, and looked up and froze when I saw who it was. With hair as dark as night, and so curly it fell over his forehead from how much he had bent to lean closer, and eyes a deep shade of sea blue, with lips to die for, I could have sworn that I had fallen into a dream. Heat flooded my veins as I locked gazes with my savior. Casper Williams III. Chloe's uncle. It took seconds, before my body went into action and I tried to pull away from him. Was he drunk? Had he taken drugs? Because that could be the only explanation as to why he had his arm around me, and referred to me as princess. "Exc-" He interrupted me before I could get a full word out, pulling me even closer as he broke our gaze and turned to face Evan and Racheal whom I had forgotten for a moment, were even standing there. "If you would excuse us." he nodded, his expression hard. Evan looked like he would explode. Racheal on the other hand looked like she had just been slapped. I allowed Casper pull me away, not even in complete control of my limbs myself. "T-thank you for your help, Mr Williams. I had it under control, but thank you." I managed, refusing to meet his gaze as I tried to flee. "You can thank me, by having a drink with me."
