A small chuckle escaped her as she wondered just how Anthony would handle the table being turned on him. Have him see that moment where she scented out another, and got up and walked off to go and claim them, without so much as even sparing him a glance.
Marking and Mating him without consulting him the Alpha to the pack and just expect him to smile and be gracious about it. Do all those things he had done to her in return, then have him have to see her smiling and laughing, happy with her other Mate all the time and paying him no attention whatsoever.
Choose only to have that second Mate sate her heat needs. Something she knew a she-wolf with two mates that weren’t mated to each other got to do. Choose where she slept every night, choose who got to sate her needs and create pups with. Showing Anthony just how it felt to be left out of their mate bond.
Christy would likely love it, find a way to make it out that Mischa no longer cared for Anthony at all and tell him to just reject her for being so callous and uncaring, which would see Christy as the only reigning Luna of this pack.
She wouldn’t even argue it, just stare at him and smile ‘You may if you want to, but it’s just the will of the Goddess, is it not? Now we both have a second Mate is all. Shouldn’t you be accepting of this like I was of your second Mate?’ They would be the very words she would speak, putting him in his place calmly, making it out that he was the one that couldn’t handle it and was all he-wolf jealous when he, in fact, had been gifted the very same thing, and she’d not arced up about it at all.
“What amuses you?” Anthony’s voice interrupted her thoughts as he walked into the Luna’s office where she was sitting. Though there was no smile in his voice as he spoke to her.
Her eyes moved to him. He was back from dropping Christy at the pack hospital, it seemed. He was she noted carrying a small bouquet of flowers. He walked over to stand next to her desk and frowned when she didn’t answer him, but just leaned back in her Luna chair and stared up at him, it kind of put more distance between herself and him.
“Thank you for understanding the current circumstances and my absence from your heat.” He stated softly after a moment. “but Christy’s heat was… unlike any other before, her bouts came every 30 minutes or so and were quite painful. I did try to leave her to come to you, but she was in agony.
“Clawed at herself, tearing into her own body when I tried to leave her to tend to you. I’ve got the pack doctor running blood tests, something was very wrong, I feel.”
“Mm.” was her only comment because she wasn’t understanding of it, he just presumed that she was.
She watched him place those flowers on her desk “Thank you for having the pack doctor and staff on standby for when it was over… though how did you know to do that? Brent said you requested it specifically from him,” he asked her.
Mischa raised an eyebrow at him as she read between the lines. This wasn’t an apology. This was a polite way of accusing her of it being her fault. “Are you accusing me of doing something to Christy?” she asked right back.
He said nothing, and she shook her head at him. “I’m a Luna, Anthony, in case you forgot that very thing. As you yourself just stated, I understood what was going on. I also figured out if you couldn’t leave her for even one of my bouts of heat, over the course of three full days,” she pointed out to him.
“That either, you opted not to come and sate my needs of your own free will and, on purpose, abandoned me to suffer them alone, causing me pain on purpose, because you only wanted to be with Christy…” She paused to let that sink in for a moment and saw him frown at what she was implying “But then I dismissed it, you would never do that to me on purpose now would you, leave me all alone and cause me pain.”
She went on, “I don’t want to believe your that cruel, so I surmised something was also off about Christy’s very sudden and unexpected heat. When I mind-link to you, I could actually feel through that link you were mating her. Laud could feel it in Shade constantly, his need to mate with her due to the scent of her heat.
“So I knew you weren’t lying to me, just to ignore me…” she stated, clearing that up. “I even checked when Christy’s previous heat was compared to this one. Because we’ve never been in heat at the same time before, it was very unusual to me. To the pack’s Gamma even.
“When I finally stopped being in heat, I had Paul check to see how long her heat naturally lasted, concerned for her and the way I or Laud knew you were mating her, and for how long without a break at that. So, yes, of course, I understood she might need time in the pack’s hospital to recover.
“So, yes, Anthony, I asked the pack doctor to prep the Luna Medical Suite in advance, even told him why at the time. Brent frowned, unhappy himself about hearing how you were mating Christy, knew as well as I could, it could cause her harm or injury.” She cleared that up as well, she wasn’t going to be blamed for simply prepping care for the she-wolf “then Anthony, it went for 9 days, not her usual 5, so of course I knew something was very wrong, everyone here did.”
He was still frowning at her, trying to figure out if she’d set this up and she knew it. Likely Christy had whispered in his ear about that hospital room being prepped for her, meant that Mischa knew something about her heat being unnatural, did something to her.
“I am a Luna and I will take care of all our pack members, including your other Luna. Have I ever done anything to warrant your doubt about that?” she asked “On this note, why didn’t you wait for the blood results to come back before coming in here and accusing me of doing this to her… or maybe think it through properly.
“Which you clearly haven’t done, because how could I have done anything to her, when I was already in heat for a full day before her heat started? I was, in fact, with you the entire day before her heat started was I not. Or did you forget that?”
“I’m not…”
She cut him off, “Yes you are, I can read between the lines, Anthony, as good as you can. Did Christy perhaps state something to you to try and pin this on me? Just like she accused me of lying about being in heat, how she wormed her way into my suite, where I was in heat. How she got you to take her in there just by complaining. Did she do that in the hospital just now? Complain or imply to you, it was my doing?” she accused him right back.
“I explained that.” he stated.
“And now I have explained to you what I did, my reasoning and thought process for why I had Brent prep the medical suite for Christy.” She nodded. “So, you expect me to just believe you, but you won’t believe me, when I’ve in fact laid out facts of the situation, I saw, not just my personal reasons like you did.” She shook her head
“Why even bother questioning me at all? Just believe Christy’s words and thoughts on the matter. Why don’t you just have me taken out and punished with no evidence as to why. I spent three days in agony suffering my heat alone, a full day in the pack hospital myself for recovery of the after affects of you not mating me through my heat. Do you honestly think I would put myself through all of that on purpose?”
“I’m not here to punish you, just…” he scrubbed a hand over his face. “It did seem very convenient that you would set up that suite for Christy.”
“Oh I see, so you are actually accusing me of drugging her, I see. That’s just great, Anthony. At least now I know where I stand in your eyes. Guess I wasn’t wrong about the utter ugliness of things was I.
“But just to let you know if I had drugged her to induce her into heat, not only wouldn’t I do it at the same time as my own heat, but I wouldn’t bother to ask the pack doctor to look after her afterwards, now would I.” She shook her head “Why don’t you just wait on the blood results before jumping to stupid conclusions.” She stated coldly.
She picked up those flowers and tossed them in the bin right in front of him and his eyes widened at her actions. She’d never once rejected flowers from him before. “I don’t want flowers from you if you don’t actually mean to give them as a true apology, for leaving my heat unattended, but only to be used to give you a way to come in here and accuse me of harming your other Mate and Luna.
“Something I have never done in the two years of you being mated to her,” she stood. “I’ll take my leave, Alpha, I’m not in the mood to deal with your ridiculous accusations, when Christy is the one that always comes between you and I, not the other way around.” She stated and walked around her desk on the opposite side to him and out of her office.
Even now, out of that room and away from Christy, knowing he’d abandoned her to suffer alone, he only came here to accuse her of trying to harm his second mate. This really was the utter ugly truth she’d been looking for. He did not care that he’d made her suffer alone, hadn’t come in here all apologetical and hugged her and begged for forgiveness.
No, he just came in with the intent to have her punished for what was likely Christy’s own doing, but she’d somehow made him think it was Mischa who’d done this to her, and so she had to be punished for it and, of course, he would. He only cared for what Christy wanted, there was she now realized no room for herself already within his heart. He had two Mates but only wanted one.
It was going to be up to her to protect and defend herself from now on, and she would do just that, because what he’d just done was accuse her in a round about way of treason. Which was a death sentence in this pack, not banished, not marked as a traitor, a full lashing and then death by liquid silver into the veins; of the wolf that was a traitor.
