6 LYNNE I was waiting for Connor in the lobby when I was approached by a well-dressed, middle-aged Egyptian man unwilling to take no for an answer. I tried to ignore him, but when that didn’t work, I took a firm stance. “La-a,” I kept repeating, to no avail. “Imshee!” I turned to see Connor coming toward me. “Sorry I’m late, darling—the overseas telephone service is deplorable,” he said, slipping an arm around my waist.
