Chapter Five

A few hours had passed and Colton knew he should leave Addie’s place, but he couldn’t force himself to get out of her bed just yet. He was glad he hadn’t scheduled anything after the meeting because it gave him the opportunity to spend a little time with her instead of having to leave for work. Unfortunately, he did have to leave, he just wasn’t in a hurry to do so. Colton smiled over at her as they laid under the purple satin sheets, their limbs entwined as they rested from their most recent f**k session. He watched her, drinking her in as if she were a fine wine, knowing she was easily the most beautiful woman he’d ever set his eyes on. Had he met her before Casual Companions he would have ask her out on a date in an instant. The s*x was great, she was an amazing person, and she could cook. What more could he ask for in a relationship? “What?” she whispered, a shy smile passing over her face when she caught him staring at her. Colton shook his head and reached over to move a stray strand of hair from her face. “Nothing,” he whispered back and caressed her cheek. Addie’s eyes searched his as her hand moved up his abs and over his chest, letting her fingers dip along his muscles before coming to rest just above his heart. She lowered her head and rested it against him, smiling when he pulled her close. He made her feel so many different emotions at once; sexy, dirty, sated, safe, and completely content. She would have to make it a point to see him more often now that she was settled into a new life and free to date whoever she wanted. “Do you want to go to a Broadway show with me?” she asked suddenly as she turned her head and looked up at him. “I’ve always loved the theater, but my ex hated it so I haven’t been to a show in ages.” Colton looked up at the ceiling as he thought about her proposal. “I’ve never been to a Broadway show before.” “Never?” Addie said as she sat up and looked at him with surprise written all over her face. “I thought every New Yorker had seen at least one show.” She chuckled and shifted on the bed, turning to face him before crossing her legs between them. “I’ve seen Wicked and Phantom of the Opera a few years back, but there have been so many others I’ve been dying to see.” “What are a few of the shows you want to see?” “There’s so many,” she repeated with a laugh as she reached down to take his hand and twist their fingers together. “I still want to see the ones that have been around for a long time, like Les Miserables, Chicago, The Book of Mormon, The Lion King, and Cats, but there’s a lot of newer ones that have come out in the last couple of years. Hamilton is at the top of my list. Then Aladdin, Kinky Boots, Pippin, Finding Neverland, Motown, The Color Purple... I could go on forever.” Colton grinned at how animated she’d gotten over talking about something she loved. He took note of how beautiful she looked as her eyes sparkled with the passion she felt. “That’s a lot.” “I know.” Addie laughed and lifted his hand to her lips for a kiss. “I have a thing for musicals. I’ve been obsessed with them ever since I was a kid. It used to be my dream to star on Broadway.” “Yeah?” Colton smiled and sat up a little. He loved that Addie was sharing part of her life with him. He wanted to learn anything he could about her. “Why go the business route, then?” “Because I can’t carry a tune, even if I had a bucket.” Colton threw his head back and laughed, then leaned forward and kissed the little pout that appeared on her lips. “I’m sorry, babe. That was funny as f**k. Maybe you’re just overreacting. I’m sure you’re not so bad.” “No. Seriously. You do not want to hear me sing. Save yourself from getting the ear bleeds.” “Aww,” he muttered, a smile still on his face as he watched her. She was so f*****g cute. Colton nodded and gave her a smile. “All right, I’ll go to this show with you. But you have to promise not to talk the entire time or tell me what happens because you already know all about the show.” “I promise,” she grinned, shoving him a little. “I won’t spoil it for you.” “Good, because if you do our next date will be karaoke.” “Ha! Well the joke’s on you. You’re the one who will pay for it by having to listen to me sing.” “No, babe,” Colton said with a shake of his head. “You’ll be forced to hear me sing. The ear bleeds will be the least of your worries.” Addie giggled and climbed over him, reaching toward the bedside table to grab her phone. “What’s your schedule like? I don’t want to book over anyone’s time.” Colton pulled her across his lap and leaned down to brush his lips over hers. “I will always make time for you, Adalina. It wouldn’t matter if I was busy or not. I’d cancel my plans to go with you.” She smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him close enough for their lips to brush again. “Then I’ll go ahead and send the request.” “Nah, don’t send the request. Let’s have a date. A real one.” Colton searched her eyes, hoping he hadn’t overstepped any boundary that might have been between them. He knew they were attracted to each other, and they were already making plans on another date, but doing it knowing it was a job was one thing. Going on an actual date brought whatever they had into the real world, and he wasn’t sure if she really wanted that or if she was comfortable keeping him at a distance. Addie’s eyes lit up as she watched him, a smile brightening her face as she processed his words. “Really?” she said excitedly as she threw herself at him, pressing her body tight to his chest as she squeezed him. “Yeah, why not? You don’t have to pay me to spend time with you.” From the moment he’d met her he knew that he’d date her even if Casual Companions wasn’t involved. She deserved more than just being some woman who paid for a few hours of his time. She deserved to be wined and dined and treated like a queen. If he had his way, she’d never have to pay to see him again, and she damn well wasn’t spending her own money on an expensive Broadway show. She just stared at him, the look on her face was something he couldn’t put words to. It was as if she couldn’t understand why a person like him would want to date someone like her. “Addie,” he put his hands on her face and pulled her close to him. “You are an amazing woman. You’re strong, independent, and smart as f**k. I love being around you and spending time with you. Honestly.” She smiled a little, then leaned in to get another taste of his lips. “Thank you, Colton.” He returned her smile, his eyes lighting up. “So you tell me what day you want to go and I'll buy the tickets, make reservations at a nice place for dinner, and pour you enough wine throughout the night to make your panties fall off.” Colton laughed, but the look in his eyes said he was serious. “You don't have to do all that to make my panties drop, baby. They do that on their own whenever I see you.” Addie grinned and nipped at his lips, sighing against them as she slowed the kiss down. “Do you want to stay tonight?” she whispered as their eyes met. “You don’t have to go home.” Colton groaned against her lips, taking a deep breath that ended in a sigh. “I have to go home, babe,” he said reluctantly. “My roommate and I have plans early in the morning.” He tried to convince himself that he could just stay there and leave early in the morning to meet up with Mason, but he knew how he and Addie were together. Chances were they would probably f**k well into the morning and he would end up missing his time with Mason. He liked Addie but he wouldn’t chance leaving Mason hanging. Even for her. Fuck, Colton thought to himself. He really wanted to stay, but he knew he couldn’t. “Text me tomorrow morning and I’ll come by after work, okay?” “All right,” she answered as she wiggled away and sat on the edge of the bed. “I’ll send you a message through the app.” “No, don’t do that.” Colton picked up his pants and fished through his pockets until he found his phone. “Text my number.” He gave her his phone number and made her text him so he could store her number in his contacts. “You won’t get in trouble, will you?” she asked as she added his name and number to her phone. He would definitely get in trouble if anyone found out, Colton thought to himself. This was the first time it occurred to him that he was meeting Addie outside of a request through Casual Companions. Even though he had just gone to a meeting about that this morning, and sat through dinner with the guys talking about the same topic, here he was, doing the same s**t. f**k, he didn’t want to lose his job, but he wouldn’t be stupid like Tommy and tell Barrick all about it. As long as Addie sent him a request through the app every so often, Barrick wouldn’t get suspicious. “Don’t worry about that,” Colton replied, then slid off the bed to find the rest of his clothes. “Are you sure you want to do this, then?” Colton paused after he pulled his pants on, then leaned down and kissed her softly. “I’m sure. A hundred percent sure. I won’t get in trouble, I promise.” He gave her a smile, hoping he had put her at ease. If anyone was going to worry about his job, it was him. After he got dressed, he took Addie’s hand and walked with her through the condo until they were standing by the doorway. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” he said, pulling her against him for one last kiss. “Promise?” she said against his lips as she wrapped her arms around his waist. “I promise.” And he meant it. It didn’t matter to him that he was breaking Barrick’s number one rule. Barrick wouldn’t find out because he would be smarter than the other guys. As he gave Addie one last hug and walked out, he smirked when he thought about his conversation with the guys. They were right. f**k Barrick.
