The great hall of the Moonfire Castle had never been so crowded. Every Alpha, Beta, and noble wolf of the realm stood gathered under the silver chandeliers, their whispers weaving through the air like venomous serpents.
At the far end of the hall stood Lucian, tall and commanding in his ceremonial black attire. His golden eyes gleamed as though lit from within, a warning to anyone who dared oppose him. At his side, Ariana stood in a gown of midnight silk, the council’s seal pinned across her chest.
Her heart hammered against her ribs. She could feel the council’s eyes on her—their judgment, their doubt. Even after signing the contract, Ariana wondered if this was a victory or the beginning of her downfall.
Lucian’s voice carried across the hall, sharp as steel.
“Tonight, before the council, the clans, and the gods, I declare Ariana as my wife—bound not only by bond, but by law. She is your Luna, and any who stand against her… stand against me.”
The hall erupted. Some bowed their heads reluctantly, while others hissed their protests. Among them, Selene stepped forward, her crimson cloak dragging across the floor.
“Luna?” she spat, her lips twisting into a cruel smile. “You dare call her Luna? She’s a weak human, an imposter with no claim to this throne. Do you not see it? This girl will bring ruin to us all!”
A murmur of agreement rippled through the hall. Ariana felt the weight of their scorn pressing against her chest like iron chains.
Lucian growled, his aura flaring. “Careful, Selene. One more word and you’ll regret—”
But before he could finish, Selene’s voice rose, echoing like a siren’s call.
“Then let her prove herself! If this little phoenix is truly reborn, if she is fated to be your Luna, let her show us her fire. Or else admit what we all know—she is nothing.”
The hall stilled. Dozens of eyes turned toward Ariana, waiting. Expecting.
Her throat tightened, fear clawing at her insides. Show us her fire. What fire? She had nothing—no claws, no strength, no control. Just memories she didn’t fully understand, and a bond that felt more like a chain.
Lucian stepped forward, his presence overwhelming. “She doesn’t need to prove herself. My word is law.”
But Ariana raised her hand, stopping him. Her voice was steady, though her hands trembled.
“No, Lucian. She’s right.”
He turned sharply, golden eyes blazing. “Ariana—”
She ignored him and faced the council.
“You think I’m weak. A human. An intruder in your sacred world. Maybe I was… but not anymore. If you want proof, then watch closely.”
Closing her eyes, Ariana reached deep within herself, searching for the strange pulse she had felt since signing the contract. A warmth buried under her fear, a flicker that had been growing day by day.
Her heartbeat thundered. The whispers of the hall grew louder, taunting, doubting. And then—
Something answered.
Heat surged through her veins, burning but not destroying. Her skin shimmered faintly, golden light rippling beneath the surface. The chandeliers above flickered as though caught in a sudden wind. Gasps filled the hall.
Selene’s smile faltered. “Impossible…”
Ariana opened her eyes—and they glowed, not human, not wolf, but something ancient. Sparks danced across her fingertips, small at first, then rising, twisting into flames that curled and coiled like living serpents.
The council recoiled, some stumbling back in fear.
Ariana raised her hand high, and with a voice that echoed like thunder, she declared:
“I am not an imposter. I am not weak. I am reborn of fire and bound by fate. I am your Luna—and I will not be denied.”
The flames leapt skyward, swirling into a blazing phoenix that soared above the hall before bursting into a rain of embers. None dared speak, none dared move.
Lucian’s chest rose with something fierce, almost pride, though his expression remained unreadable. Selene’s face twisted with rage, her fists trembling at her sides.
“You think fire makes you queen?” she hissed. “You’ve only awakened the curse. And when it consumes you, not even Lucian will be able to save you.”
Ariana stepped down from the dais, her eyes still glowing faintly as the last of the flames died. She walked straight to Selene, her voice steady and sharp.
“Then watch closely, Selene. Watch as I turn this curse into my crown.”
The hall erupted again, but this time not in mockery. Some bowed their heads willingly, some with fear, but all recognized what they had seen.
The reborn queen had arrived.
