Chapter 04
Fear clothed me, and I turned slowly, counting my steps as I wasn't expecting anyone to be in the room.
I turned around and my gaze landed on a captivating dark blue Asian eyes befitting a pointed nose. His light skin looked infantile, I was tempted to go closer and have a touch, to run my fingers through that light skin but I controlled myself.
What kind of creature is standing before me? I thought Greek gods were only in movies, I never knew they existed and one is standing flesh and blood before me.
I was lost starting and drooling for about two minutes before I remembered he had asked a question.
“Err... Mm. My name is Cynthia, I was sent here to drop that suitcase” I stutter trying to explain myself, pointing to the suitcase on the bed.
“My mom never told me she has gotten a beautiful housekeeper, “ he said and gave a little smile that almost made me wet my pants.
I swallowed nothing.
His overwhelming appearance made me falter, and I also admired his aesthetics. He is a perfect example of nature's masterpiece.
Besides, he didn't curse, nor did he yell or insult. He addressed me politely and pleasantly.
How is Ms. Carley his mother? No resemblance at all.
“Come and have a seat," he said, gesturing to me on his recliner.
He was nice after all, unlike his mother.
But I didn't accept the offer of sitting. I know what the consequences would be if I was caught so I declined.
“ I'll be leaving now, I ought to be downstairs, I still have work to do for ma'am, " I floundered, storming out of the room.
He grabbed my fist before I could make it to the door.
" I'll go tell her you are with me, you need a break," he said and stared at me with pity, observing my appearance.
I felt both nervous and embarrassed because I had not had a good bath, and sweat was gushing out of my pores. I reek of poverty.
My slightest opportunity wasn't enough for me to take good care of myself. I'm always occupied with house chores and doing errands for his mother.
“I…I'm fine" I stutter again which disproved me.
I know I'm going to be in a mess if Carley finds out I'm having a conversation with her son.
Unfortunately, I heard footsteps at the doorway approaching this direction. I lost control of myself, patently in fear.
“What's it?" he asked, staring at my eyes using his index finger to lift my jaw. I felt an aura, I felt a sensation run through my spine, the kind I can't explain. I felt my inner throb with an urge of s****l excitement.
I silently prayed that my body would not betray me.
“ I want to go now, please,” I said, nicely.
Just as I moved away from him, Carley opened the door with great force, she did not attempt knocking.
She was filled with agony, I awaited this moment.
“Umm..umm..umm" I was trying to force a speech out of my mouth but I failed. I was dismayed, I was confused.
She didn't even wait for an explanation, she slapped me so hard across the face that I lost sight for two seconds.
The pain was excruciating and too much for me to bear and the salty tears rolled out of my eyes without force.
“What are you still doing here? How many hours do I have to wait for you? she shouted angrily.
Michael looked disappointed.
He was speechless at the play that had happened.
“Mom, why?" was the only thing he could utter.
He couldn't retaliate, he looked infuriated. He knew his mom to be surly, not wicked.
“Can't you see she's not in her duty post,” she replied in a loud voice, waving her long artificial nails at me.
I took a glance at Michael and I wouldn't say what the look on his face was.
He looked like he was disappointed and confused at the same time.
"Be down in twos," Carley said and eyed me bitterly before exiting the room.
Many thoughts ran through my mind. Should I be scared? Will she throw me out? She does this daily. Why is her son angry and disappointed? Isn't he aware of his mother's attitude?
Why did he try to act supportive towards me?
Ouch! The pain hurts so bad. I almost forgot about the incident, I was so bothered and concerned about the altercation downstairs.
I managed to get water to drink in the kitchen.
I was a bit angry when I found out I had not cleared out the dishes. The chef had littered the place as usual. I had to do the cleaning.
The next morning, I woke up feeling feverish. The incident that happened yesterday was severe enough to be erased. But I'm a little bit satisfied with Micheal's reaction, I felt cared for for the first time.
As much as I was pleased, I reminded myself that he was Mrs Carley's son and I was way out of his league.
I made myself understand that I shouldn't feel too happy for all I care, he could be just like his mom and was only pretending.
I can't judge a book by its cover but I still won't trust him.
The way he stared at me yesterday was too flirtatious and enough reason for me to keep my distance. He might just be protective of me because he needs my body but I can't tell.
Thinking of Mrs Carley, she did not message someone to wake me up by 4 am.
My gaze fell to the alarm clock.
It was twenty-eight minutes past nine and I jumped out of bed like I had been bitten by a scorpion, running like a wounded tiger straight up to Mrs. Carley's room.
I got to her room to prepare her shower. She wasn't there.
Has she gone to work? Where is she? She's in the sitting room I concluded within myself.
As I approached the sitting room, I saw Mrs Carley putting on a long scarlet gown sitting on the couch. She was gorgeously dressed, the color of her lips matching the gown.
She was going through the daily magazine, and she didn't notice my presence.
“Good morning ma" I greeted her and waited for her to curse my f*****g life out but she kept quiet. Unlike her.
she would have ordered me on what to do, before leaving the house.
She kept me standing there for about ten minutes.
“Ma'am I'm sorry for yesterday,” I tried to start a conversation by apologizing but I never knew I was making a mistake.
“I promise, it won't repeat itself, “ I continued, running my palms together fretful.
My heart was troubled because she was not saying anything.
“You wouldn't get paid for this month, you deserve it,” she said flipping the pages of the magazine.
“ I don't have anything to say to you,” she continued.
Her words hit me like a thunderbolt and I swear I thought I was deaf for the first five minutes.
I wouldn't get paid? My salary is my life.
“Ma… please, please” I sobered bitterly, falling on my knees to the ground.
“Forgive me please, I pleaded, crawling to touch her feet. I couldn't control the tears rolling out of my eyes.
I tried to touch her but she yelled, pushing me off with her feet, hitting me in the process.
“Don't you dare touch me?" she warned me.
" Please forgive me” I pleaded in tears.
“Get out!!! “ she shouted, showing aggression.
I stood up carefully, I was very confused and bittered.
Mrs Carley is not improving her attitude but is only getting worse.
Suddenly, I felt dizzy and the pains escalated around my body. It was severe this time.
I held the handrail for support as I was now seeing everything as double.
The stairs looked like they were swimming into each other.
I successfully reached the door to my room, attempting to click the knob, and then,
I collapsed…….
