CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

1686 Words
I saw two people arguing with each other from afar. I glanced at them with my furrowed brows. It didn't take that long for me to stare at them, and instead of including myself in their fight, I decided to shrug and continue with my work. It's been an hour since Heather asked Basilio about what he did before, and her supposed question ended in a confrontation until they finally quarreled. Heather told me a while ago that Basilio always does this to her. She continued her rants against him before, and it seems like it was even better for me that Conrado and Basilio went to our room. When Conrado asked for something from her, Heather hurriedly punched Basilio without further ado. Actually, their argument ended earlier, and I don't have any idea what they are quarreling about now. Instead of engaging in their argument, I decided to continue watering the plants. Actually, this is my first day at work. Heather told me that I should start my work today. She told me that Shaun was a bit strict when it came to the cleanliness of their house, and he didn’t want to see us doing something else instead of our work. She even told me that Shaun once scolded her when he saw her resting after her work. "Does that mean that I no longer have the right to rest?" I asked myself. I felt my lips pucker a bit because of my thoughts. I just stopped thinking about something else when Conrado approached me. I don't know if he's here to talk to me or if it's just a coincidence that he came here just to sit on the bench near me. Just like I had thought, he sat at the bench next to me, and I didn't expect him to look at me. "It's your first day today, isn't it?" he asked, which made me nod. "You should rest first. Solanna. "Heather will take care of that. I turned to look at him while pursing my lips. I replied, "Heather told me that I should start my work today. She told me that it would be better if Shaun could see me working even though I had just arrived," and I felt like I was a kid complaining to my parents because my playmate snatched my candy. I hate this kind of feeling. His brow furrowed a bit because of what I said. "Heather told you that?" he asked, which made me nod. His serious stares, didn't last long when he chuckled at what I said. He said, "Shaun doesn't tend to interrogate their maids and employees, Solanna," while shaking his head. I felt my brows raise a bit out of confusion. He added, "What you were doing is Heather's job, Solanna. Don't you know?" "She didn't tell me." "She was just fooling you because Shaun's family just hired you and she knows that you don't know anything yet in terms of your future work," he said. I couldn't even get his point right now, so I couldn't do anything but furrow my brows. He smiled genuinely at me and said, "She was just using you so she could escape her job." And here's Marjorie, telling me that Heather is a hardworking girl even though it's not! When I got his point, I slowly turned to look at the girl who was now approaching us. Her brows were furrowed and I know that's because of his irritation to Basilio, because when she turned to look at me and when she caught me glaring at her, that's when I saw how she smiled mockingly at me. Based on her looks, it seemed like she already knew that I had an idea of what she was doing to me. "How's your first day, Solanna Anastacia Javier?" she asked before she burst into laughter. Basilio looked confused while looking at her, while Conrado couldn't do anything but shrug and smile a bit. That was just a simple conversation, but for me, this kind of conversation made me get to know them thoroughly, even though they hadn’t yet formally introduced themselves to me. I know their names, but I don’t have any idea of their personalities, and having this simple conversation with them gave me the idea of getting to know them somehow. Conrado may have looked young, but based on his actions and the way he thinks, I can say that he's matured when it comes to everything. I rarely see him smile, and it seems like it's natural for him to do that. Basilio, on the other hand, looked playful. He's the type of guy you'd stay away from because you're not sure if he's just tripping you up or what. That was my first impression of him, and I don't know if I'm right or wrong in my first impression of him. Heather mostly looked irritated and annoyed at all times. She rarely smiles, but I know that she's an easy-going, happy person just like my sister. I thought she would trip me up and show me a horrible attitude on my first day on my work, but it seems like I'm mistaken. She's the most jolly person I've ever met, even though I often see her forehead furrowed in irritation because of Basilio. I don't know them very well yet, but I'm sure that the time will come that I will be able to know them more if I take this job. I slowly shook my head. This is not the right time to think about staying here and how long I will last in this kind of job. This is not the right time to discourage myself because even though my work here will be hard, I should just keep going. Nothing will happen to me if I just give up. If I give up, who will pay the debt of my family to that Henrietta? I'm the only one my parents expect, so I should keep on going even though I'm having a hard time. I saw how her lips rose a bit when I rolled my eyes at her. Conrado and Basilio burst into laughter when they saw that I was annoyed with what Heather did. Heather, on the other hand, jokingly put her arms across my shoulder and forced me to enter the house with her. "Marjorie told me a while ago that I'd be the one to train you in what you'll be doing at this home," she said, making me secretly roll my eyes. "Before, I did all the household chores here. From washing the dishes, watering the plants, feeding the stray dogs with leftover food, and even washing their clothes." She pulled me into a room where their laundry was. "I want to teach you now, but Basilio told me that Shaun is coming home, and he will scold me if he ever sees you doing my jobs." "So, when Shaun doesn't come, I'll do all that?" "Yes." She nods at me. I rolled my eyes at her, which made her burst into laughter while looking at me. While waiting for the clock to tick at five o'clock, I decided to help Heather with her task. At first, she stopped me, but when she saw the eagerness lurking in me, she just let me go. "Shaun might scold me," she said when I finished ironing his suit. I walked closer to the kitchen sink, and that's when she decided to stop me. She added, "You're a visitor, and tomorrow is your first day. I was joking when I said you were here to work now; Ms. Henrietta informed me that—" "Relax," I said, cutting her explanation short. She puckered her lips when I smiled mockingly at her. "Don't worry because I won't report you to Shaun." I turned to look at the areas where the CCTV's were installed that I had seen earlier. "But I'm sure that they will see everything that I do in the recordings." "W-What?" she asked in a panic, which made me laugh. I smiled mockingly at her, which made her lips pucker a bit. "I'm just fooling around." She rolled her eyes at me, which made me burst into laughter once again. I stopped laughing when Basilio entered the laundry room, where we were, while pointing at the living room. "Shaun's already here, Heather, Solanna," he said. I felt my chest pound a bit because of so much panic, and I don't have any idea why I feel like this. I feel like there's something wrong that I can't figure out and I don't have any idea what it is. "Ready to meet your boss?" Heather asked before she hurriedly pulled me with her out of the laundry room, where we were. Basilio followed us while Heather and I went to the living room, where he was. Marjorie wasn't here, so Heather was the one that is now in charge. "Sir," Heather called him before she turned to look at me and smiled mockingly. "Solanna's here! She's the one Ma'am Marjorie was referring to last week," she added before she turned to look at the man sitting on the sofa near where we were. That man was busy adjusting his neck tie. He took it off and tossed it on the table, which Heather quickly picked up. I stayed in my stance while waiting for him to turn around to look at me, but he didn't. He remained with his back to me, so I couldn't help but watch his back. He looked very manly, and I feel like he's pretty annoyed and he’s not in the mood tonight based on the way he put his hands around his waist. "Solanna?" he asked before he decided to turn to look at me. I feel like time gradually slows down when our eyes meet each other. I felt my eyes widen a fraction when I saw him again. This... can't... be... "Y-You?" I asked curiously while pointing my fingers at him. Is it possible for him to recognize me?
