I felt confused while staring at that cake. They did not touch the cake. They just ignored it until the lit candle on top of it went out. I couldn't even read the greetings properly, especially when the icing written on it melted down due to the heat. No one dared start a conversation about what happened. We continued our dinner without any other topic but work, and only the quarrel between Heather and Basilio was the reason why we temporarily forgot what happened earlier. I feel like if they hadn't fought, the celebration wouldn't have been fun. I feel like I was the cause of their fight, because if it weren't for the question I asked Marjorie earlier on the veranda, she wouldn't remember what happened to Celestine.
