The dog stared as though Paffin were insane-of-the-mind. “Are you insane-of-the-mind?” he asked. Considering what he’d endured on arrival, Paffin did wonder. “Do you think I want to find things more easily?” the dog asked. “Do you think searching for a piece of paper for three months suggests incompetence?” “Metaphorically?” The dog tutted, stood and waded through papers. “For a millennium, Paffin-Blimsy, the Cadre have had little to do other than wait and jot down the occasional thing. Indeed, up until recently, not having a filing cabinet has been the most exciting thing about the Cadre of Bedlam.” He glared hard. “Despite you being an Elder of Bedlam, it seems you have little understanding of the Cadre at all.” Ashamed, Paffin fiddled with his hammer. This was the Cadre of Bedlam.
