New Friends

1144 Words
I started the day off pretty normal. Woke up brushed my teeth for dressed ate breakfast. Father went to work in his study and Josh spent his time playing that stupid game. I waited for Sam to knock but it was already 12:45 and he wasn't here. I guess reconnecting with old friends was too much to ask. But I waited and waited and waited. As I checked to time for like the 100th time I got a text from him. "Sorry I can't make it today. Promise to make it up to you tmr" I didn't reply so with that, my day was free. I went into the living room where Josh was eating pizza rolls and at a virtual strip club. "Really Josh? A strip club?" He paused the game and looked up at me. "Don't judge what you don't understand. Anyway aren't you supposed to be with that boy?" "Yea, well got stood up" he gave me a serious look. "Really? Want me to handle him?" This made me laugh. "And do what, play him to death?" I laughed some more and he gave me a playful offended look. "So whatcha gonna good for the rest of the day now that your date is off"  "It was never a date, just two old friends hanging out" from the look on his face, he didn't buy that. But I continued before he could say anything. "Anyway, I don't know, maybe me and you could do something." He laughed. "What? What's so funny?"  "It's funny you think I have nothing better to do than hangout with my big sister. Unlike you I actually have a life" He checked his phone and typed something before he stood, turned off the console, opened the door and two boys, that look around his age walk in. "Jack, Ben, this is my sister Elle." Jack had messy Platinum blonde hair, and Ben's was dirty blonde and looked like it was growing back from a clean shave. "Hey cutie" Jack said winking at me. Before I could reply Josh punched him in the arm. "Back off bro that's my sister" Ben gave me an apologetic smile and Jack had a smirk on his face that would've been sexy if he wasn't my brother's friend. "Let's go, later sis" Josh said before him and the two boys went up to his room to do who knows what.  Wish no one to hang with I decided to go into town. I remember seeing a book store and a smoothie shop last time. I knew my way with going through the woods now. I grabbed my purse and headed out. 20 minutes later I finally make it into town and the first place I spot is the bookstore. It's small but inviting. I head in hoping to find a good book. It takes some time but I find the fantasy section. I look around and pick up books with intresting covers but not finding one I actually liked. "Need some help?" I hear a girl's voice ask. I turn to see a dark haired girl wearing a green vest and carrying a ton of books. "No but it looks like you do" I take half the books from her. And she smiles to me. "Thanks" I smile back. "No problem, where do you want these?" "Over here" she said walking to an abandoned cart. She places the books on the cart, I do the same. "I'm Elle" I hold my hand out to her. "Courtney" she takes it. "You new around here?" I give an embarrassed smile. "That obvious huh?"  "Yea, you haven't really mastered the face of boredom and despair yet" we both laugh. "Guess not. So you work here?" I noticed that here best matched a sign I saw out front. "Oh, yea. Needed the money"  "Lucky, I've been wondering if I could find a job around here" I forgot to ask Father about that. I want the money to visit home sense mom cut me off. "We have an opening, I could get you an application."  "Wait. Really?! That would be awesome." It would be a dream come true to work here. I've always wanted to work at a place with tons of books. I imagined myself at a library, but this is the next best thing. "Yeah, I can even put in a good word for you to the manager"  "Your an angel" I said. "No, just someone who really needs company" we both laughed again. She checked her watch. "I actually get off in 5 minutes if you don't mind waiting, I could get you the application and we can head out." Yes! My first friend here. I tried to keep my excitement to a minimum. "No, don't mind at all." She smiled at me. "Great" she them turned and started organizing the books on the cart.  After her shift, she gave me an job application. I filled it out there and we made our way out. "So where we going?" I asked, not knowing my way around. "We could go to Aunt Mary's place" I wasn't sure if that was a*****e or not, but I assumed it was. "Uh, yea sure" she chuckled, "don't worry. It's where everyone hangs. Good food and banger smoothies" I nodded and we made our way to Aunt Mary's. When we got there I could already tell why people hung out there. It was the only place on town with free WiFi. The inside was a rainbow of colors and the waiters were in skates. They were delivering pizzas, wings, fries, and more. It was air conditioned and everything looked new. Courtney led me to a booth in the back as a boy with short red hair skated up to us. "Hey Court, what's up? Who's your new friend?" His voice was carefree and light and I could tell from the way he looked at Courtney that he was crushing. Hard. "Hey Jace. Just got off work. This is Elle, she's new." He looked my way. "Hey Elle" he extended his hand. "I'm Jace k****e. Don't worry you'll get used to this place eventually" He gave me a warm smile, which I returned. Jace took our order and skated away. As we were waiting, we started talking and I learned that Courtney and I have a lot in common.  We were joking and laughing when I spotted her. Veronica Taylor. An old friend. Best friend to be exact. Her, Sam, and I were inseparable. But now I saw her with the girl that was hugging up on Sam yesterday. I was hoping, praying that they didn't see me. But of course, due to a cruel twist of fate. They spot me. And the look on their faces in that moment makes me wish I had never left the house.
