Making Enemies

As they walked up to me, I could see the discomfort in Veronica's eyes and the anger in the eyes of the girl who's name I still didn't know. "Well if it isn't the new girl." she said, now at our table. "yep. fresh out the box." I said, trying to break the ice. The only one who seemed to think it was funny was Courtney. She laughed which earned her a glare form the girl. I chuckled nervously and looked to Veronica when I to got glared at. "Hey V, its been a while." I gave her a smile that I hope didn't look as nervous as I actually was. "You know her?!" The girl said, clearly not trying not to hide the disgust in her voice. Veronica looked, almost scared. I've never seen her like that before. So much have changed in the past 5 years. So much more than I expected. "N-no" She stuttered out. "I've never met her before." She lied, right through her teeth. Why?! "Trust me Taylor, I would never associate with someone so..." She thought for a moment then continued. "Mundane." She gave a confident smile but i saw right through it. She wasn't just scared. She was nervous, intimidated, terrified.  Taylor seemed to let it slide then looked to me with a look that could kill. She looked me up and down. Then to Courtney. "I've always known you had low standards i friends, but seriously?" She looked back to me and said, "This is just sad."  Before I could say anything, Courtney spoke, "What's sad is that wig you think is passing as your real hair." Taylor gasped. "Who do you think you are talking to me like that?!" Behind her Veronica looked as if a bomb about about to go off. Just as Taylor was about to speak again, the door to the shop opened and walked in the black haired boy from before. Instead of black the v-neck he wore now was white. Unlike last time there was emotion in his eyes. Anger. Taylor seemed to forget about Courtney and I and turn to him plastering a smile on her face. "Alec!" He looked to her and annoyance crossed his face, she didn't seem to notice. "I didn't know you would be here" He walked up to the table and my heart beat out of my chest. He looked to me, we locked eyes and for a moment there was a different emotion in them. Shock and... something I couldn't quite place, but it was all replaced with disgust. why, he didn't even know me. Taylor now hung off his arm and he seemed to forget all about me. He threw Courtney an indifferent look before him. Before leaving Taylor turned her head to me, "Watch your back" With a hair flip, she sashayed away, holding on to Alec and Veronica following behind.  With them gone Courtney couldn't help but to break out in a ball and giggles, snickers, and chuckles. Jace skated over with us still laughing. "What's so funny?" We looked at each other then back at him telling him at the same time. Nothing could be understood with in our ramblings so we both paused and couldn't help laughing again. He chuckled, "Well I see you two are getting along" He placed down our food as we composed ourselves. I ate a fry before telling him about Taylor and Veronica. "Wait so you know Veronica?" He asked, Courtney looked just as interested in my answer. "yea, well...I don't just know her. We used to be best friends." Jace gave me an 'Are you for real?' look. "No way" I imagined Courtney was just as shocked so I proceeded to tell them how our dads were best friends until they got in some kind of fight. whenever we asked about it they said it was just over some girl, but I never really bought that. I told them how we grew up together and how Her, I and Sammy we always together. But when I mentioned him Courtney dropped the fry that was meant to go in her mouth. "You were friends with Samual?!" I didn't understand the shock in her voice. Was it really that hard to believe? I ignored the question and continued telling Jace what happened with Taylor.  "Wait, so she told you to watch your back?" The distress in his voice matched the look on Veronica's face when Courtney spoke up. "Yeah, but what's the worst she can do?" He looked at me like I had lost my mind. I looked to Courtney to back me up but she now too looked worried. "What?" I asked, still not fully understanding their concern. Courtney sighed, "Taylor's parents are rich, she basically gets and does whatever she wants." I've dealt with my fair share of spoiled rich people, nothing I can't handle. "I'm not worried." Jace looked at me, like I've officially lost it. "Trust me, I can handle anything she throws at me." I smiled at them and Courtney smiled back. "Okay, I got your back."  Jace took a deep breath, trying to hide his worry. "If you say so. But I got your back too" I gave him a thankful smile. We stayed like that for a moment before someone called his name, he quickly left to continue busting tables. After eating, Courtney and I left, still drinking our milkshakes. "So, where to now?" I asked. She thought for a moment before saying. "I'll show you around town" We smiled at each before taking another sip of milkshake. "Great idea!"
