The Black Wolf

I kneeled next to it and lightly laid my hand on it's side causing it to whimper and wince to my touch 1 quickly pulled away "l-I sorry" I looked around not knowing how to get him back to the house without hurting him so much "Okok I'll be right back" I stood and ran to the house, throwing the door open and flashing up the stairs, skipping two steps at a time When i reached the top I made it to Josh's door and banged as loud as I could without waking my dad. I felt like forever before he opened the door His hair was dripping wet and he had on sweat pants and a blue T-shirt that look damp from his body "What?!-" His face changed from incredibly annoyed to incredibly worried "What is it?! What happened?!" | was so out of breath that I couldn't speak so instead I grabbed his arm and pulled him to the stairs. I let go so I could go down I knew he was running behind me wondering what had me so rattled. We made it back to the hurt wolf at the edge of the forest. "holy s**t!" He ran to the black wolf and made the same mistake I did but this time the wolf growled. “I- I don’t  know how to get it back to the house! I need your help! Please!!" He looked shocked. “Is that a serious question? Of course I’ll help. But how are we gonna get him up to the house if we can’t even touch him?” That’s where I was stumped. “I-I don’t know...” “What if... we use the wagon we used to play with when we were younger?” “The red one?” I asked a little confused. “Nooo, the rainbow unicorn one” he said, his voice laced with sarcasm. I rolled my eyes “now is not the time for your smart mouth” now it was his turn to roll his eyes. “Your right, not the time... but definitely later” I looked up at him “do we even still have that stupid thing?” He gave me an are your kidding look “why wouldn’t we have it? I’ll go get it!!” He ran back into the house before I could say anything.  I turned back to the hurt wolf. “We’re going to help you. I don’t know what happened to you but we’re gonna make you better, promise” the wolf whimpered quietly and I scratched behind his ear. “It’s okay, everything’s gonna be okay” Josh came back running, with a red wagon rolling behind him. He stopped when he got to us “we could put him in here if he’ll let us”  “Yea lets do it” He walked around the wagon and went to the other side of the wolf. “In three?” I nodded and placed my hands under the wolf, Josh tried to do the same but the wolf growled at him again, causing Josh to pull away. “Come on, we’re trying to help you. It’s okay, we won’t hurt you” the wolf nodded as if he understood. I looked back to Josh “come on” he slowly placed his hands back under the wolf. He went stiff but didn’t growl this time. “One...” I said taking a deep breath. “Two...” Josh counted with me. “Three.” We said in unison, before lifting the broken wolf and carrying it to the wagon. Josh had put a blanket in the wagon for the wolf. We placed the wolf in and Josh grabbed the handle and pulled as I walked beside it. The wolf looked up to me as we walked and them laid it’s head on the side. We came to the front stairs where I grabbed the back of the wagon to get it up.  With a lot of work we made it to me room. “Go...get... the first... aid..kit..” I said between breaths. He nodded and ran out the room. I rolled the wagon between my bed and the window. A few minutes later Josh came back with the first aide kit. “Did you find out what’s wrong with it?” “No I’ve been too scared to look” a Josh kneeled down beside the wolf to examine it. The wolf growled but stopped when I put my hand on his head. My touch seemed to calm him. “He’s hurt pretty bad, maybe we should’ve called the vet” The wolf growled again and I scatched behind his ear. “The vet isn’t open this time of night. We have to handle it ourselves” Josh nodded and look back to the wolf. “There’s a pretty bad cut in his side, he needs stitches” he went through the first aide kit and pulled out a thread and needle then handed it to me.  “Wh-why are you giving to me?!”  “Your good at sewing” “B-but-“  “Your the only one who can do it” my hands shook but I took the needle and thread. I tried to thread the needle but my hands wouldn’t stay still. Josh placed his hands on mine. “It’s okay” I took a deep breath, stood and sat next to Josh. After calming myself, I threaded the needle with ease.  “I need hydrogen peroxide” Josh went into the kit and handed it to me. Not really knowing what I was doing, I poured it on the Wolf’s cut. It turned white but the wolf didn’t show any signs of pain. Josh handed me gloves and clothe to wipe the white puss up. I put the gloves on and took another breath. “You got this” Josh repeated over and over.  I held the needle tight and started sew the wolf’s flesh back together. We didn’t have anything to put the wolf to sleep or numb him so Josh put one of my pillows by it’s head to muffle the bowls. As if conscious of my brothers actions, the wolf bit down on the pillow in front of him.  After almost 45 minutes I finally finish the sew. The wolf seemed to be tired so I decided it was time we all finally sleep. Josh was so fired that he stumbled out of my room, running into the wall on his way out. I laughed as I closed the door behind him. I then quickly showered and changed into something with less wolf blood and fur in it. I got into bed and under the covers just wanting to sleep. Just as I put my head on my pillow my phone went off. “Hey, sorry we couldn’t hang today but hope your free tmr : )”  I smiled looked down at my phone then replied. “Always free for you” “Cool. I’ll come pick you up” I was too tired to ask the time so I just replied with a smiley face and turned the light out. Turning over on my side I could see the wolf look at me with bid black eyes that comforted me into sleep.
