Dead Line

After showing me around, Courtney suggested that we go back to my place, I happily agreed. When we were there I used the spare key that my dad keeps under the ugly garden gnome on the window seal. We slowly walked in, the living room was empty and all the lights were out. It was about 8:30 so I knew that Josh’s friends went home. “My room is this way” I lead Courtney upstairs but before I could open my door I heard another being opened. To my surprise I turned to see a platinum haired boy coming out of the bathroom. “Bellow beautiful” he said with a wink. “What are you still doing here?” I asked, confusion clear in my voice.  “Spending the night” he said with a shrug like it was obvious. “Who’s you’re pretty friend?” He looked to Courtney. “Jack this is Courtney, Court this is my little brother’s friend Jack” she waved nervously at him to which he replied and nod and wink. I rolled my eyes. I said later and went into my room, Courtney close behind.  “ well he seems.....fun?” We both laughed at her description. “If my dad’s letting him stay, maybe he’ll do the same for you.” Her eyes shot up to me. “ yea maybe!” She then sighed and laid on her side on my bed. “Wait, no I can’t. I have a family thing tomorrow morning.” A family thing? I didn’t question and said “oh...” trying to hide my disappointment. Apparently I didn’t fool her. “Maybe another night” she said. I looked up and smiled. “Yea maybe” We spent most of the night making jokes and being silly. We got a little hungry so we went down stair to make pizza rolls. Sitting on the counter, I checked my phone to see if Sam had texted. When I saw that he didn't sighed and ate another pizza roll. "What's wrong" Courtney asked. Not wanted to bother her my problems quickly told her it was nothing, "You've been looking at your phone with disappointment all night and I'm starting to think your hurting it's feelings. I chuckled and her joke then sighed again. "It's Sammy" she didn't reply, when I looked up she had a look of confusion on her face then I realized she didn't know him by his childish nickname. "Samuel." I corrected and saw realization hit her face. She still didn't reply so I continued. "it's just.. we were supposed to hang out today." "And all you got was me" she made another joke that I chuckled at. "No, I'm happy i met you" I smiled but it was gone as I continued my explanation, "He stood me up today and I guess I just expected him to at least text to explain or make new plans.but he never did" I look down at my fidgeting hands. "Hey, do worry yourself too much. I'm sure he'll text, or call anytime soon. He'll be crazy not to" I looked up at her eyes watery "really?" She hugged me and I melted in her arms. She didn't have to say anything for me to understand In that moment we heard someone coming down the stairs. Courtney pulled away as we both looked, Josh walked in the kitchen. "Hey sis!" He said energetically, "Hey!" I said with just as much energy. "Josh this is my friend, Courtney Courtney, this is my little brother" I mentioned to him. "Hey" he said to her and she waved in response. Josh opened the fridge and looked thoughtfully inside. "I didn't know your friends were staying "Yea, they almost always stay over when I visit dad's." He didn't look up. "Hm... how long are they staying?" "Just tonight, maybe tomorrow." Great Jack here for another night. Honestly he's harmless but I have a feeling that his flirting is gonna get annoying real quick. Josh closed the fridge deciding that he didn't want anything inside. "What time is it?" Courtney asked. I checked my phone, "9:45" she gave me a worried look. "Oh crap I have to be home by 10. I hopped off the counter. "Wait seriously?r I thought for a moment. "I can drive you" Josh gave me a amused looked, "You don't have a license. Plus your too young" "Mom taught me how to drive, I don't need a license as long as I don't get caught. So please, can you sneak in dad's room and get the keys." I poured and my lip quivered. He looked at me with a serious look so I gave him puppy eyes and he sighed. “Fiiine” I jumped in joy, “yay! Thank you!”  We went upstairs where Josh slowly opened my dad’s door. We all heard the loud creak of the door and froze. After a moment Josh tip toed in. He was in there for a minute before he came out with his hands in his pocket. “Well? Do you have them?” I whisper shouted. He quickly shushed me and we moved away from the door. “Here” he said proudly as he pulled the keys from his pocket. I snatched them and hugged him. “Your the best”  We hurried down the stairs and ran outside. “Hop in” Courtney went to the passenger side. When I heard the front door close I turned to see Josh coming out. “Your not coming” I said to him. “Yes I am. I got the keys so I’m coming”  “Josh, we’re in a rush, there’s no time to argue. I’ll repay to another time, promise. Plus you have company, you can’t just leave.” He sighed, knowing I was right. “Ugh fine, but you owe me”  “Deal I said before getting in the drivers seat and starting the car. Courtney showed me the way to her house and we got there at 10:10. She said her goodbyes as she was jumping out of the car and she went in. When I got back home I heard a weird whimpering sound. I didn’t get out, not know what it was. That’s when I saw it. A shadow of a dog. A wolf. I opened the door and ran to the shadow at the edge of the woods. There lay the big black. He was hurt.
