23 THE LAST DANCE ON THE EIGHTH PLANE After sending Trevor one direction around the house, Marshall Trooper went the other way. He was hoping to trap Jessica between them. Trooper stayed down to stay clear of the windows as he moved to avoid getting shot by someone inside. This crouching run hampered his speed. When he’d rounded two corners, Trooper thought Jessica had outflanked him and Trevor. Maybe she’d gone back into the house. Perhaps she’d gotten past Trevor, somehow. If she gets to the hovercar, Trooper thought, she’ll be gone. Unconsciously, he walked backward, away from the front of the house, to see two sides of the house simultaneously.
