Chapter 27: Blue moon

We made it out of the forest and as we came out on cases so often I ended up visiting Ellie and getting a car off her. It was parked just of to the side of the forest and I climbed in.

Reika got in the passenger seat.

“where does this white witch live?” I asked, starting the engine.

“Just on the other side of town.”

“In the vampire district?”

I started driving and she guided me as we drove along. Th drive took us through winding roads lined with towering trees before the scenery gradually changed. Ancient stone buildings gave way to elegant townhouses, immaculate gardens, and expensive-looking shops.

Eventual we turned onto a quiet road with street lamps and towering hedges.

“Here,” Reika said.

I slowed the car in front of a massive house.

Honestly, it wasn’t much smaller than Zack’s mansion had been.

Weathered grey stone walls stretched toward the sky, with vines and hundreds of blooming pink roses running along it. Behind the black wrought-iron gates sat perfectly maintained gardens filled with rose bushes, lavender, and white blossoms I couldn’t name.

The entire place felt feminine.

We walked the stone pathway and Reika knocked on the door.

A few moments later it opened.

I swear to God an Angel answered it.

For a second, my brain completely stopped working.

She told us to follow her in.

She leaned back against my chest and smiled up at me making me lose my breath.

“Thankyou,” she said.

“No worries,” I grinned and when we reached her kitchen I pulled out the chair for her.

“So what brings you here Reika?” She asked.

Reika quit glaring at me and showed her the information the council had sent.

“We were hoping you could give us an idea as to where she might do such a summoning and how long you think we have.”

She read through the information and was thinking for a while before she answered, “I believe I know where she’ll attempt the summoning.”

Reika straightened.

“Where?”

“The abandoned witch settlement.”

“The ghost town?” I asked.

She nodded.

“Before witches were permitted to live among humans again, many of us lived there. Powerful rituals were performed in that place for generations. Summonings. Spirit work. Blood magic. Even now, all that power and residue will still be there for her to tap into and make her own summoning even more powerful.”

“How long do we have?” Reika asked.

Angelica thought for a moment, then said, “She will need a blue moon phase for the kind of spell she’s wanting to do, there is one due in two months time.

Two months wasn’t long enough, but it was better than two weeks.

“Ok, Thankyou Angel,” Reika said.

She nodded and then tears trailed down her cheeks.

I brushed another tear away.

“This is my real proper relationship and you’re my true mate, I’m still learning but I should be way more respectful than I have been, I’m sorry, if I’m completely honest she wouldn’t make me come.”

“Adam!” She hissed.

“She wouldn’t, you are the only girl that can make me come so quick and so hard.”

We heard Angelica coming back and Rieka tried to quickly climb off me but I held onto her tightly.

Secretly, I tried not to gulp and then Angelica walked in so Reika couldn’t do anything.

“Thankyou,” Reika said taking them.

“You’re welcome, make sure to take them on the blue moon, the same day she will be wanting to do her summoning.”

Reika nodded and got off my lap standing up.

When I was still sitting she grabbed my hand and pulled me with her towards the front door. She let go to hug Angelica good bye and naturally Angelica hugged me too but I didn’t hug her back, which was hard, I was naturally a people pleaser so I felt bad being rude but I also didn’t want to upset Reika.

A few moments later we were back outside, the evening air cool against our skin.

“So we have time to try and find her,” I said as we headed for the car.

Reika nodded as we climbed.

“Two months.”

“It isn’t much.”

“No,” she agreed quietly. “But it’s better than no warning at all.”

On the drive back the roads were quieter and the sun was sinking lower behind the trees, painting everything gold and orange.

For a while neither of us spoke.

Then I noticed Reika looking over at me every so often.

“What’s up?” I asked.

“What do you mean?”

“You keep staring at me.”

She grew flustered and muttered, “I wasn’t.”

I smirked at her and then winked. “You find me that hot darling?”

“Yes, actually I do,” she said without hesitation.

She narrowed her eyes at me and folded her arms.
