I put the phone on the receiver and walked back to my room, it's a normal dorm room. My roommate is laying on his bed which faces the door, he's reading his Human Anatomy book. My bed is on the opposite wall, there's a desk on the wall between our beds. We have two dressers, one is one the wall by my bed and the other is on the wall by the door. Peter noticed me walking in and sat up putting his book down.
"Where have you been?" he asks me as I sit on my bed. Peter is 5'10 with long blonde hair that he keeps in a ponytail, he had semi-pale skin and brown eyes.
"My phone broke so I took it in to get a replacement which will take 4 days" I threw my hands up and down in disappointment.
"That sucks man, good thing everything's saved on the cloud" he shook his head.
"Yeah" I replied, "then I called my friend Emily on the payphone in the hallway" I told him.
"Oh, you mean that girl" he points to the picture I have on my dresser of me and Emily, it's the picture from her prom.
"Yeah" I said smiling, she's the most beautiful girl I have ever laid eyes on. "Her parents are retiring and her dad was signing over the businesses to her and her sister today" I told him, "I wanted to see how it went" I said and he nodded.
"So she's older than you?" he asked me with a raised brow.
"No" I chuckled, "we're the same age she's just smarter than me, a genius" I told him.
"Oh, wow" he said in awe. "Does she know?" he asks.
"What?" I ask pretending not to know what he's talking about.
He leans back against his wall with his arms folded across his chest and gives me a look that says you know what I'm talking about. I lower my head and rub my face with my hands, "No" I finally say.
"Why haven't you told her?" he scolds me. "I mean look at her, she's gorgeous" he told me.
"I don't know" I shake my head, "maybe because I don't want to ruin our friendship" I tell him.
"Well that's a load of bullshit" he hissed, "you know what you need, a night out" he said standing up. He opens a drawer in the desk and pulled out a flyer, "There's a mixer happening tonight, we should go" he hands me the flyer. I look at the flyer and put it back on the desk.
"No thanks" I told him.
"Why not?" he asks disappointed.
"I'm not feeling it and plus we got a butt load of homework to do" I told him.
"Your loss" he shrugged his shoulders. "I'm going you can stay here and be bored" he shook his head and snickered, he laid back down on his bed and went back to reading. I picked up my backpack and pulled out a binder and textbook, I put the backpack back on the floor. I looked over at Peter and smirked then went to work on my assignments.
~~A couple hours later~~
"Are you sure you don't want to come with me?" Peter asks me again.
"I'm sure, I'm just going to stay in" I told him.
"Your loss" he shrugged his shoulders and headed out the door, "if you change your mind you know where to find me" he said closing the door as he left.
I shook my head as the door closed, I don't need to go to some mixer to meet anyone I already have the perfect person waiting for me back home. I got up and walked over to my dresser taking the picture of me and Emily in my hand, I walked back over to my bed and sat down staring at the picture. I remember everything I went through to keep her safe and happy since we were kids, I knew I wanted to spend my life with her when we were in kindergarten. She's always been smart, kind and generous, I can't wait to go home for Fred's wedding so I can finally tell her how I feel about her. I plan to ask her to marry me after the wedding, I can't imagine my life without her in it. I laid back down holding onto the picture, eventually I fell asleep thinking about nothing but her.
