Chapter thirteen

1050 Words
VIOLETA The palace was crowded and filled with so many guests from different parts of the world. They were celebrating Alpha Ragnar's recovery and throwing a big feast. I decided to help; the last thing I wanted was to be a burden and lazy around all day. “Violeta,” Princess Thania called. “You've been helping with the decorations all day. Don't you think it's better to take a rest?” I thought about what she said, but I wasn't going to just sit around. “But, I have to help out. I don't want to be seen as lazy,” I told her. She rolled her eyes at me. “You're not lazy, Violeta. You're a guest in this house, and you deserve to rest; stop going round the house. Come with me; I want you to meet some people.” She giggled and dragged me to a private corner. The party was yet to start, but I didn't realize that there were people in the house. I didn't think much of it anyways. She led me to a private room where there were some groups of guys and girls seated alongside Joshua andd Jasmine—at least, there were some familiar faces. “Hello everyone,” she called to their attention. “This is Violeta. She's my very good friend, and I want you to be nice to her.” Her voice was very stern, and I could tell that she meant it. They were ogling at me like I was some kind of piece of snack, and it only made me feel very uncomfortable. “Wow, so this is the famous healer,” a guy's voice brought me out of my distraught. “She's not only powerful but also very beautiful. Beauty and brains.” “Can you stop it, Kyle? You flirt with anything under a skirt,” a girl beside him scoffed. Princess Thania pulled me close to her. “Don't mind them, Violeta. That's their way of being friendly; come sit with me.” She dragged me to an empty couch and sat beside me. They started chatting amongst themselves, and I was starting to feel out of place; there was no way I fit with all these people. They were probably from a reputable pack with honorable titles, and I'm just that girl who ran away from her mate. It sucks to be me. “So, Violeta?” A voice snaps me out of my thoughts. I looked up to see a very handsome man, his gorgeous blue eyes staring deep into my soul. I wanted to look away, but it was so hard to. “Where are you from?” He inquired. That question immediately snaps me out of my infatuation. I never had anyone ask me that, and it only just made me nervous; my hands were shaking, and I was starting to sweat. “Can you cut the girl some slack?” Princess Thania intervened. “She's my guest, and you should treat her like one. What's with the multiple questions? What are you? The disciplinary committee?” Everyone bursts into a fit of laughter. Princess Thania puts her hands over mine, and that somewhat sets some kind of relief in me. It was very weird, but I was able to feel calm. “What's wrong?” He shrugged. “I'm only trying to get to know her more. She seems very interesting; maybe we could take this further.” His words made me feel a thrill down my spine, but in an uncomfortable way. I felt a strange mix of nerves and relief when Princess Thania took my hand and gently pulled me away. “Come on, Violeta. The speech is about to start,” she said quietly. I nodded, still feeling a little shaken from the guy’s intense stare. We walked back through the palace, and even though the halls were full of people, I felt like I was fading into the background. Thania’s hand was warm in mine, and somehow that made me feel less alone. When we got to the main hall, the noise of the party was everywhere — laughter, chatter, music. But suddenly, everything quieted down. All eyes turned to the stage where Alpha Ragnar stepped up to the microphone. He looked healthier than I had ever seen him — strong, steady, but with that same calm power in his eyes. Princess Thania stood right beside him, proud and serious. “My friends,” Ragnar began, his voice strong but filled with feeling, “I want to thank you all for being here today. It’s been a tough fight, but thanks to someone very special, I’m still here with you.” He paused and looked toward me. “Violeta, please come up here.” My heart jumped. Me? On stage? Princess Thania gave me a little smile, and I took a deep breath before stepping forward. Every eye was on me, and my hands felt like they might shake. I swallowed hard, the sudden attention making my stomach twist. I wasn’t used to this — being the center of attention was terrifying. My voice felt stuck in my throat, and for a moment, I just froze. Ragnar put a hand on my shoulder and said, “You saved my life. You’re not just a healer —you’re my savior.” I felt my throat tighten and blinked back tears. For once, I wasn’t just the girl with the scars. I was someone who made a difference. The crowd started clapping, but instead of feeling proud, I just wanted to disappear. I could feel every pair of eyes on me like burning lights, and my heart pounded so hard I thought it might burst. Princess Thania squeezed my hand and whispered, “You’re doing great.” I gave her a shaky smile but was already thinking about how fast I could get off that stage. Because even if this was supposed to be a moment of honor, all I wanted was to be anywhere but here. “She's going to be the pack's official healer,” he announced. My heart skipped a beat at that newfound information. Was Alpha Ragnar willing to make me a healer? I was going to be an official healer.
