CHAPTER Nine

VIOLETA I let out a sigh after gathering the herbs I needed. I didn't know if this would work, but this was the exact I saw in my dream where I healed Princess Thania's father. I didn't know if it would work, but I was willing to take the risks. Anything to make Princess Thania happy. But I knew I needed her permission before I could perform any kind of treatment on him but Princess Thania was in a meeting and it's been almost an hour and the meeting wasn't over yet. What could they be talking about? I was getting rather impatient. I wanted to let her know. I couldn't take it anymore and walked towards the room where I knew the meeting was being held. The two scary guards at the front was enough for me to withdraw but I was determined. “Um…Is Princess Thania in?” I asked, fiddling my fingers as a way for me to hide my nervousness. They looked at me, scrutinizing every movement I made. “She's having a meeting. What do you want?” One of them answered, irritation obvious in his voice. “U-Ugh…I want to—” “Speak or leave, woman,” his voice scared the hell out of me. I hoped his voice wasn't loud enough to disrupt the meeting. I forced a smile. “Nevermind, I'd come back later.” I turned to leave, disappointed with myself. I gathered all that courage, only to give up at the end. So pathetic. “Dumbass,” I heard the guard curse. My fist curled up, I wanted nothing more but to run back and punch him hard on the face but I controlled myself, knowing very well that I'd regret that. He was way bigger than me and would throw me out in a heartbeat. “Violeta!” A voice stopped me in my tracks. I turned to see Princess Thania with a few men by her side. She walked towards me, looking gracious as ever, her beauty was something I'd never cease to get mesmerized by. Maybe it's because she reminds me of myself, before I became this version. “I thought it was you,” a reassuring smile followed. “What happened? Is there something you need?” She inquired, and I wondered why she sounded so worried. “A--Are you done with your meeting?” I asked, staring at the ground, unable to look up at her. I would feel guilty if she paused her meeting because of me. “Let's not worry about that.” She took me by the arm and dragged me out of there. We went to a beautiful garden I had never seen before, I knew the mansion had a garden. But this one's different, but the mansion is so big and I've only been here a few days. “Something's bothering you,” she said. My brows furrowed, surprised as to how she's able to figure that out easily. “There's something I want to tell you,” I said, not wanting to waste anymore time. Her smile disappeared, a frown made its way to her face. “Is there something wrong? Is it the others? Are they treating you badly?” She bombarded me with questions. “No,” I answered almost immediately. “It's about your father,” I revealed, trying to pick out my words carefully, knowing that this is a sensitive topic for her. “What about him?” I sighed, praying she'd listen to me. “I know it sounds crazy. But I had a dream and I think I know how to treat your father.” She stared at me like I had grown two horns and burst into a fit of laughter. “Are you kidding me right now?” She said amidst laughter. “Do you know how many doctors have tried? Do you hold some kind of doctor's degree?” “Trust me, Princess Thania. I know it's hard but give me this chance, I know I can do it,” I assured her, putting my hands over hers. I know she's probably having doubts, letting someone she barely knew experiment on her father. What if it turned out badly? But I knew I could do it. I was certain. “I'd give you this chance,” she agreed and I almost jumped in joy. “But if anything goes wrong or I find out your intentions aren't pure, there's no telling what I'd do to you, Violeta.” Her voice was so stern that I had to swallow my saliva to hide my dear. A smile followed up later. “But I also believe in you.” She's weird at times. Princess Thania led me quietly through the long hallway until we got to a large wooden door. Two guards stood in front of it, and without needing to say anything, they bowed and opened it for her. The room was dimly lit and heavy with silence, the kind of silence that felt sacred. My heart pounded in my chest as we walked in. On the grand bed in the center of the room, Alpha Ragnar lay motionless, his skin pale, his chest barely rising with each breath. I clutched the pouch of herbs tighter in my hand, swallowing hard. Could I really do this? What if I was wrong? What if this was just a stupid dream and my mind was making a fool of me? “You have everything you need?” Princess Thania asked, watching me with cautious eyes. I nodded slowly, moving toward the bed. “I need to crush the herbs and add a few drops of water. He needs to drink it,” I said, more to myself than to her. She gave a slight nod and stepped aside, arms crossed but gaze fixed on every single move I made. My hands trembled as I prepared the herbs. I crushed them carefully with a small stone bowl I brought from the kitchen, then poured a bit of clean water from the jug on the side table, mixing until it formed a greenish liquid. “Help me lift his head,” I said softly. She did so, gently lifting her father’s head while I placed the edge of the bowl against his lips. I tilted it slowly, making sure some of the liquid got into his mouth. We waited. Nothing happened. Not even a twitch. My shoulders dropped. I tried to mask the disappointment that slowly spread in my chest. Princess Thania gave me a soft smile, but I could tell she was holding back emotion. “It was worth a try,” she said. Then added with a teasing smirk, “Unless you just poisoned my father.” I gasped. “What? No! I swear, I—” She laughed, waving me off. “Relax. I’m joking.” Sort of. I stepped back, unsure of what to do next. My eyes returned to Alpha Ragnar, hoping—wishing—for something. Anything. Then, all of a sudden, he coughed. I froze. Princess Thania’s head snapped in his direction. “Father?” she whispered. He coughed again, louder this time. Then his fingers twitched. His chest began to rise and fall more strongly. I stepped back, eyes wide. This wasn’t happening. This couldn’t be happening. “Get the physician!” Thania shouted at the guards, rushing to her father’s side. Alpha Ragnar groaned softly, and for the first time in a long time, he turned his head—slow, weak, but moving. “I—I don’t believe this,” Princess Thania said, tears welling in her eyes. She turned to me, stunned. “You… you actually…” I covered my mouth, shocked and terrified at the same time. What had I just done? Was this really the beginning of healing? Or was this something far greater than I could understand? But one thing was certain. I wasn’t just a guest anymore.
