VIOLETA
My heartbeat quickened as I stared blankly at the figure before me. She looked very terrified and I was sure that I would be too if an unknown person barged into my carriage.
She said nothing, as the both of us just stared at each other for an amount of time. She held onto her torso, and I could tell that she had some kind of weapon hidden in there.
“Who are you?” She asked, her expression stern and unmoved.
I kept looking at torso, hoping that she wouldn't suddenly attack me. “W— Wait,” I stopped her, before she could pull out the weapon.
“I know you don't know me. But please, I really need your help. I don't have anywhere to go, there are some men after me and they'd kill me if they find me. Please don't throw me out,” I pleaded.
She eyes me suspiciously. “And why should I do that? What if you're a spy and you're actually sent to kill me and this is just your cover story,” shd accused.
I knew she had a point and I had to figure out a way to convince her that I was not in any way some kind of spy. “Please, I'm not here to arm you. Believe me and I'd do whatever you want.”
She stared at me blankly, her eyes moving up and down. I was not only looking tattered but also had some injuries, maybe she believed that I was a run away and not actually here to attack her.
“What happened to you?” She asked, her eyes glued to a particular injury on my neck.
I had to fight back the urge to cry. “I was being attacked. They tried to kill me, please believe me,” I pleaded with her.
She sighed and was about to say something when we started hearing sounds and footsteps nearby. The carriage stopped and I could hear voices nearby.
“...We have a warrant to search all carriage that passes through this border.”
I recognized that voice anywhere. My heart beat started racing, knowing that if they found me then I'd be as good as dead. They weren't going to imprison me but erase my existence from this world.
“Please. You have to hide me,” I pleaded with the passenger. “They're going to kill me if they find me.”
She nodded in response. “Okay, I'd help you.”
And kept looking around for a place to hide me and told me to go hide under the seat. No sooner did I do as she told me did one of the men arrive with her guards.
“Sorry to disturb you, Miss Thania. But they have a search warrant and since we're passing through their border, we have no choice but to oblige,” he explained.
“Very well.”
She gave them space to enter, while I was making a silent prayer that they wouldn't catch a glimpse of me. They kept searching since the carriage had quite a lot of space. Her gown was big enough to cover me up and not give them any glimpse but my heartbeat still raced fast.
“Sorry for disturbing you, Miss Thania,” one of the men apologized. “We would take—”
He suddenly paused and I didn't know why until she spoke up. “Why are you staring down there? Do you want to search under my gown? You p*****t,” she mock gasp.
“What…No,” he stammered. “I apologize for the misunderstanding. We will be taking our leave.”
“You better be sorry.”
I didn't come out of my hiding place until she gave me a cue. “Alright, they're gone. You can come out now,” she whispered.
I took a deep breath and had to check for myself that they were truly gone. She chuckled softly, “What? Do you think I was going to rat you out or something?”
I sighed in relief and turned to face her. “You have no idea how much you helped me. I thought today was going to be my final day on Earth.”
She nodded. “You're welcome. Why are they after you anyways?”
“I was accused of something I didn't do. Someone set me up, she hates my guts and wants me gone. But I didn't do it, believe me.”
A part of me was hoping she didn't think I was some kind of criminal and called back the guards. “You don't have to worry about that, I believe you.”
She kept staring at me for a long period of time when I thought that something was wrong with me. “What's wrong? Is there something on my face?” I asked.
She shook her head. “What happened to your face?” She stretched her hands forth, but waited for my permission before touching my face.
She caressed it gently and she has to be the first person who sees my wounds and doesn't start acting disgusted.
“It's kind of a long story,” I replied.
She simply nodded. “You don't have to tell me. I can see through your scars that you've been through a lot and for that, I'm willing to help you.”
A smile appeared on my face. “Really? Thank you. Thank you.”
“Don't thank me yet. Promise not to be a trouble to the pack or secret spy, okay?”
I chuckled softly. “Rest assured.”
“By the way, what's your name?” I asked. “I'm sorry if I was being rude and didn't ask first, but I was in a crisis. I'm Violeta, you?”
She smiled, staring down at my stretched forth hands and replied, “I'm Princess Thania of the moon veil pack. It's nice to meet you, Violeta.”
She's a princess. That explains the expensive outfit, big carriage and guards. She was just like me. I used to be like this.
“Are you alright?” Her voice snapped me right out of my thoughts.
“Yes,” I replied. “Thank you so much for your help, Princess Thania. I promise never to take it for granted and you won't regret taking me in your pack.”
“It's alright,” she wavered. “And please, call me Thania. I can be nice, Violeta. But mess with my pack and face my wrath.”
