The First Night
Ami barely slept.
The luxurious bedroom felt unfamiliar, and the silence of the enormous mansion made her feel even smaller. She sat by the window, staring at the city lights that glittered in the distance.
Everything had changed in a single day.
She was now the wife of the most feared billionaire in the country.
A knock on the door startled her.
"Mrs. Kingston?" Martha's gentle voice called. "Breakfast is ready."
Ami quickly got dressed and followed her downstairs.
The dining room was breathtaking. A long table was covered with pancakes, fresh fruit, eggs, pastries, and coffee—far more food than two people could ever eat.
Evans was already seated at the head of the table, reading the morning newspaper.
Without looking up, he said, "Sit."
Ami quietly took the seat opposite him.
The silence was unbearable.
She reached for a glass of orange juice, but her nervous hands slipped.
The glass tipped over.
Orange juice spilled across the white tablecloth and splashed onto Evans' expensive suit.
Ami's eyes widened.
"I-I'm so sorry!"
The room fell silent.
The maids froze where they stood, expecting Evans to explode in anger.
Instead, he calmly placed the newspaper on the table and looked at the stain.
Lucas held his breath.
Everyone knew Evans hated carelessness.
"I'm really sorry," Ami repeated, grabbing a napkin to wipe the table.
As she leaned forward, she accidentally bumped into her chair, nearly losing her balance.
Before she could fall, a strong hand caught her wrist.
Evans.
For a brief moment, their eyes met.
"You should be more careful," he said quietly.
"I know..."
To everyone's surprise, he simply stood up.
"Lucas, cancel my morning meeting. I'll change my clothes."
"Yes, sir."
As Evans walked away, the servants exchanged shocked glances.
One maid whispered, "If anyone else had done that, they would've been fired immediately."
Martha smiled softly.
"It seems Mrs. Kingston is already changing this house."
Ami heard the comment and frowned.
"No," she whispered to herself.
"I'm only here because of a contract."
But for some reason, Evans hadn't treated her like everyone expected.
Later that afternoon, Lucas handed Evans a tablet.
"Sir, there's something you should see."
On the screen was a photo.
It showed Evans and Ami shaking hands in his office the day before.
The headline beneath it read:
"Cold-Hearted Billionaire Secretly Marries Mystery Woman!"
Within hours, the story had spread across every major news outlet.
Reporters had already gathered outside the mansion gates.
Lucas looked worried.
"It seems someone leaked the information."
Evans' expression darkened.
"I want to know who did it."
"Immediately."
Outside the mansion, hidden among the reporters, the same mysterious woman watched with a satisfied smile.
She adjusted her sunglasses and whispered,
"The game has only just begun, Evans."
Then she walked away before anyone noticed her.
