The Press Conference
The mansion gates were surrounded by reporters.
"Mr. Kingston! Is it true you've gotten married?"
"Who is your wife?"
"Were you hiding the relationship?"
Camera flashes lit up the entrance as security struggled to keep the crowd under control.
Inside, Lucas looked worried.
"Sir, this is getting out of hand."
Evans remained calm.
"Prepare the car."
Ami stared at him in disbelief.
"We're going out there?"
"We don't have a choice."
A few minutes later, the mansion doors opened.
Evans stepped outside first, dressed in a perfectly tailored charcoal suit. Ami followed beside him in a simple cream-colored dress Martha had chosen for her.
The reporters erupted with questions.
Without warning, Evans reached for Ami's hand.
She looked up at him in surprise.
He leaned close enough for only her to hear.
"Smile."
She forced a nervous smile as the cameras clicked relentlessly.
One reporter shouted, "Mr. Kingston, when did you two fall in love?"
Evans answered without hesitation.
"Long before the public knew."
Ami nearly choked.
Another reporter asked, "Mrs. Kingston, what made you fall for him?"
For a split second, panic filled her mind.
Then she remembered the contract.
"He... makes me feel safe."
Evans glanced at her.
It was only for a moment, but something softened in his expression.
The conference ended quickly, but the internet exploded with praise for the couple.
Back inside the car, Ami let out a long breath.
"I thought I was going to faint."
"You did well," Evans said.
She blinked.
Was that... a compliment?
Before she could respond, Evans' phone rang.
Lucas answered instead.
His face turned pale.
"Sir... the board members have called an emergency meeting."
Evans' expression hardened.
"So... they've finally made their move."
