Chapter 46 1.2

{VICTORIA} IT'S been two days since Jackson told me that his secretary would call me once I was hired by his company. Yet until now, I haven't received a call from Jackson's secretary. Why did I even expect it? From the beginning, I knew it was unlikely for him to hire me. I knew he wouldn't want to see me every day. I'm currently lying on my bed. Demi is already asleep beside me. It's past midnight, but I still can't sleep because of overthinking. I raise my cellphone in the air and gaze at its screen. Not a minute has passed in the last two days without me checking my phone's screen. I always keep it close to my body so I can immediately know if someone calls me. And right now, I am really losing hope that his secretary will call me. After a while, I opened my cellphone's gallery. I tapped on one of Jackson's photos in my gallery. Despite my annoyance, I couldn't help but smile while looking at his photo. You're so grumpy now. You even surpass ice in terms of coldness. I hope a good spirit possesses you, so you'd consider rehiring me for my previous job so that I would be near you every day. Oh my god! I suddenly dropped my cellphone, and it hit my nose when it rang abruptly. I couldn't react immediately due to the intense surprise. To add to that, my nose hurt badly as my cellphone hit the bone of my nose. Upon realizing who was calling, I quickly grabbed my cellphone, which ended up beside me, and then sat up. Fortunately, the caller hadn't hung up yet. I answered it swiftly, my heart beating fast. I could only think of one person who would call me using an unknown number. "Hello?" I greeted the person on the other line. I heard a faint clearing of the throat in the background. Several minutes passed before the person on the other end spoke. "Mrs. Victoria?" the man finally responded. His voice resembled Jackson's secretary, and the way he addressed me as Mrs. confirmed that it really was him. I rolled my eyes at him even though he wouldn't see me. "I already told you, I'm not a married woman. Just call me Ms." I couldn't hide my annoyance in my voice. "Okay. Sir. Jackson has decided to hire you for the position as the head fashion designer of our company. You can start working by tomorrow, and I will give you a short briefing beforehand," he stated seriously and directly to the point. A smile started forming on my lips upon hearing what he said. Finally, my manifestation of being hired by Jackson came true. Thank you, Lord! I won't waste this opportunity. Get ready, Jackson, because starting tomorrow, I'll do everything I can to get your attention. "Thank y— Well, that's rude! He abruptly ended the call. Where are his manners, argh? But it's fine, Victoria. The important thing is that I'm accepted again into Jackson's company. That's what matters. It's a good thing I didn't go to sleep right away. Maybe that's why I couldn't settle down and sleep—they planned to call me in the middle of the night. I bet it's Jackson's idea to call me at this hour, thinking I'd be asleep and unable to answer his secretary's call. If I didn't answer, they might not have called me again. Hmp! Jackson probably thought he could outsmart me. But fate really seems to be on my side. I placed my cellphone on the top of the drawer within reach. I lied down beside Demi with a wide smile on my face. It looks like I'll be going to bed happily tonight, even though I'll have only a few hours of sleep because of my early start tomorrow. "WHAT'S making you smile like that, Victoria?" Dad asked me as I packed lunch for Demi to take to school today. Dad and I were currently in the dining area while Demi was in her room getting ready for school. She had already grown up easily. She can now manage on her own to get ready for school. Time flies really quickly. It seems like it was just yesterday when she was still my baby girl. I looked at Dad with excitement. "Oh, I haven't told you yet. Guess what? Jackson hired me back in my old position at their company." I shared the good news with Dad. He smiled at me. "That's good to hear. Just take your time sorting things out with him. Let him also take his time healing from the pain you caused him while being with you every day. I hope that you two find your way back into each other's arms," Dad advised me. "Thanks, Dad," I said with a smile, and I quickly hugged him. After preparing Demi's lunchbox, I dressed up in my room. I opted for black trousers and a violet long-sleeve blazer paired with a v-neck white t-shirt inside of it. I also wore my violet high heels. I applied some baby powder to my face and a cherry lip balm for a simple look. Since I have clear skin, I don't need heavy makeup for normal days. For the first time, I tied half of my hair in a high ponytail for a new look, and I was satisfied with my new look. Dad drove me to WGC before he and Demi headed to her school. I would leave my car with Dad. Maybe I'll be commuting later, when I go home after work. Demi wanted to join me for a moment. She really wanted to see Jackson, but it's not yet the right time for their reunion. I'm afraid Jackson might become distant from Demi. I don't know. I just don't want my daughter to feel any resentment towards Jackson. Although I trust Jackson to know how much he loves Demi, and I know he won't do that right now, I don't want to risk how my daughter perceives him. I want him to remain the perfect dad in Demi's mind, just like she remembers him to be.
