Chapter Two

605 Words
The feel of a cold hand shaking Callie by the shoulder had her bolting upright in her bed. The blanket fell to her waist leaving only her strapless bra as cover. The sounds of her brothers all shouting something along the lines of " ew gross," and " cover up" caused her to release a breath of relief. It was just the five stooges. " What are you guys doing here?" Callie asked as she grabbed her head. It felt as though someone had hit her with a baseball bat. Looking over at the empty bottle of wine, she groaned and dove back under the blanket. " Well it's two in the afternoon and nobody could get a hold of you," Everett her oldest brother explained in a fatherly tone. The disappointment lacing every word. " I'm a grown woman," Callie moaned although it was muffled through the blanket. This only served to make her brothers roar with laughter. "We can see that. Did you celebrate to hard last night?" Sean teased. Celebrate is the last word to describe the events of last night. Maybe wallow in self pity. A loud pounding on the front door had Callie releasing another groan of pain. The guys seemed to find their sister's wine induced torture hilarious. Connor feeling a slight twinge of guilt rushed to answer the door. The redhead on the other side of the apartment door barely waited for Connor to open it before pushing past him. " Callie Elizabeth you stood me up. I waited at the restaurant for almost an hour. I looked like a fool," The redhead ranted as she stormed into the bedroom not caring about the audience. Callie sat up in the bed this time more carefully as to keep herself covered. She sent an apologetic look to her best friend unable to figure out what to say. " Oh my god. You look like s**t," Lexi gasped at seeing her best friends appearance. Callies eyes were puffy and nearly swollen shut from balling her eyes out last night. Her perfectly curled hair now a matted rats nest. Not to mention the streaks of makeup she had been to lazy to wash off her face last night. " He dumped me," Was all Callie could manage to say. " Out Now," Lexi ordered the brothers as she pointed towards the bedroom door with a perfectly manicured finger. All of them obeyed knowing full well arguing with her would be futile. The second the bedroom door closed behind the last brother, Lexi zeroed her attention on the mess of a woman sprawled on the bed. She didn't have to say a word as her expression alone ordered Callie to begin talking and spare no detail. Last night's events began to spill out of Callie along with another round of tears. From the text stating that Nathan would be late to the cruel break up. Lexi's eyebrow twitched as she tried to contain her visible anger and allow her friend to vent. " That bastard. How could he do that to you on your birthday? Not to mention insulting you like that," Lexi began to rant her voice raising an octave with each question. Lexi had never liked Nathan, but her friend had seemed happy so she had been supportive. " Come on. Up. Up. You are not staying in this bed sulking another second. Especially over that loser. Now go shower," Lexi commanded as she threw Callie's bathrobe on the bed. All Callie could do was watch as her best friend proceeded to raid her dresser before moving to the closet.
