Lexie Keller sat at the vanity, applying her makeup in quick swooshes of the brush to properly contour her face. Some women were blessed with high cheekbones and a porcelain complexion, but Lexie took classes and spent enormous amounts of money to achieve those things. Or at least the appearance of them. As her fortieth birthday approached, she couldn’t help feeling a little melancholy.
