SAKSHI VARMA
“Why don't you want to marry me, woman?!” He asked banging his hands on the steering wheel. I then realised that the car had stopped and we were in front of my house.
Before I could even think I blurted out, “because I'm lesbian.” s**t! Why did I say that? Well, no need to cry on the spilled milk now. I just hope he backs off after hearing this.
Instead of saying something he leaned towards me. The colour of his eyes became darker.
"Hey, wha-" He cut me off by placing his index finger over my lips.
"Shh." He shushed me and like an obedient child, I became silent. It is just me or it feels more hotter in here. He looks like he's in some kind of trance. Maybe the heat is affecting him too.
"So you say you like women, not men?" He asked lightly biting on my right ear and then placed a soft, lingering kiss on the cheek. Why is he suddenly getting so touchy now? Can't say I'm complaining though. It feels good.
"You didn't answer my question." He whispered still prepping kisses on my cheeks and then his lips slowly trailed down towards my neck. What did he ask again?
"So you like women right?" He asked again, his breath hot on my neck.
"No-yes. Yeah, I like women." I stuttered out trying to slow down my beating heart. I almost gave myself out.
"Then why am I affecting you?" He asked biting slightly on my collarbone. God, where the f**k you're right now? Please save me. I promise I'll not steal anyone's food for a whole week.
"Uhh-you are n-not affecting me. You are just making me nervous because you're sitting too close." I said trying to back off from him but there was no more space in the car as my back was pressed against the door of the car.
"Liar." He whispered and backed off a little. I blushed and looked away. What is happening to me? I don't act like a hormonal teenager. This is not me.
"So that now we discovered you're not a lesbian, care to tell me the real reason of not marrying me?" He asked and this was my last straw. He did all this just to prove a point? Assshole.
"You want to know why? I'll tell you why." I hissed and continued, "I don't want to marry you because I don't wish for you to be dead. Is it too much to ask?"
ARJUN KHURANA
I don't want to marry you because I don't wish for you to be dead.
I don't want to marry you because I don't wish for you to be dead.
I don't want to marry you-
"Hey man. You listening?" Yash asked, distracting me from my thoughts.
"Yeah. Yeah." I said dismissively. He knows I'm not giving attention to whatever he is saying because a hot-headed she-devil has made her house in my head. Since the day I've met her I'm not thinking about anything but her. It's like she's everywhere.
What did she mean by that anyway? Why will I be dead? It's not like someone can kill me that easily. And I'm not being cocky here, it's true.
Yesterday when she had told me that and stormed out of the car, leaving me drowning in my questions i didn't stop her cause I knew she was in no state of talking. I saw her barely holding herself, either from crying or punching something. And as much as I know her, she would prefer punching something, more like someone, as in me. So I left, giving her time to cool down.
That girl has too many secrets, much more than I prefer.
'Like you don't have any of your own?' My inner self mocked.
I do have my own secrets, secrets which I don't want to touch her or anyone I love. And her secrets-even if I sound like a hypocrite-I want to know each and every one of them, make them mine and deal with them. I haven't had this urge in my whole existence but now I want her, all of her. And I'm not letting go of her, not now, not ever.
"Bro, you're lost again," Yash yelled right in my face making me aware of his presence. Right now, I just want to kill him. Why did I come here again?
"So she just told you that and walked out on you?" He asked, smirking a little. That asshole is having fun seeing me miserable.
"Yes. No explanations, nothing at all and now her words are echoing in my mind like a f*****g radio." I said getting frustrated and pulled my hair a little. I swear that woman will make me insane one day.
"Did you try calling her?" He raised his eyebrows.
I glared at him and replied, "I called, I messaged and again I called, then I stalked her on i********: and sent there message too. But nothing." She'll definitely make me a professional stalker one day.
"Then why didn't you go and visit her?" He asked again, making me glare at him. As if I haven't done that.
"Oh, why didn't I think of going to her house?" I asked him sarcastically and he shot me a glare.
"She was not there and her father said he couldn't disclose her location and asked to leave her for a few days. But it's been three-f*****g-days. How much longer did I have to wait?" I grumbled.
"So what now?" He asked as Sam entered the room. We were sitting in his office cabin.
"Now, we go and persuade her father to give us her location," I said while standing up and moved out of his cabin.
"Remind me again why am I here with you?" Yash grumbled from behind me as I went to press the doorbell. I snickered slightly.
"You were the one who came willingly," I said with feigned innocence obviously knowing why he came here.
"Because of her, I'm here." He pointed his fingers at Sam who just raised her eyebrows in amusement.
"I can't leave her alone with you. Who knows what you two might do." He grumbled. Sam is here because she wants to make sure that I don't scare her new friend's father away. Her words, not mine. She followed me and Yash followed her. The things you do for love.
"Aww, I'm hurt that you have so little faith in me," I said, making a fake sad face.
He was going to say something but closed his mouth as someone opened the door.
"Hello. How may I help you?" A woman with a petite body and fair skin, who looked like she's in her late forties opened the door. She was wearing a traditional saree. She must be the stepmother. I mused silently. The last time I came here she was not there.
"We are here to meet Mr Akash Varma." I cleared my throat feeling a little nervous. I'm here to meet my future father-in-law so it's my right to be a little nervous, right?
"Oh. Please come in. I'll just call him." She said and led us to the living room. There was a large and sofa the middle and two double- seaters sofas on both sides of it facing each other.
"Guys look at this. It's so cool." I heard Yash say in excitement. I turned and saw him holding a bowl full of different colour of water beads. They really looked beautiful but he is really acting like a child right now. I just shook my head and looked at him amusedly. Sam was laughing now.
"If anyone asks, I don't know him," I said to Sam who was still laughing.
"Wow! Chocolates!" Yash yelled seeing a bowl full of different kinds of chocolates on the table. But before he could even touch it a hand stopped him.
"You don't want to eat that, young man. Sakshi will kill you for that." Mr Varma said, shaking his head a little.
"She will?" Yash asked giving him a little pout. I swear he is a child in the body of an adult. I don't know what even Sam sees in him.
"Yes. She will. She only shares her food with people she loves or cares about and that too when she wants to otherwise she'll not let you even touch it." He said, smiling slightly. Wow, she's surely possessive of her food.
I cleared my throat a little, getting Mr Varma's attention. When he looked at me I asked, "Mr Varma please tell me where is she? I need to talk to her."
He sighed and said, "I told you earlier I can't tell you. She'll have my head if I told you about her location."
When I opened my mouth to speak, he said, "She'll come here by tonight. You can meet her then. But," and here comes the but, "before that, I need to know if you're really serious about this marriage or not. If not, you can back out now." Both the father and daughter want me to back out from this marriage. I internally groaned.
"Sir, I'm really serious about this marriage and that's why your father agreed to this. I know we all agreed to this because of her safety but I really like her. But Sakshi doesn't want this. She had told me many times to back out from this marriage." I grumbled.
"Are you?" He asked curiously.
"Am I what?" I asked, getting confused.
"Backing out from this marriage?"
"Never." I almost growled. This seems to satisfy him as he let out a chuckle. If I let her go then someone might take her and I can't let it happen. She's mine. Period.
"I like you. You're so much like her. It'll be hell when you two get together." He again chuckled.
"Both are hot-headed and smart, extremely smart," Yash said, grinning. I scowled at both of them.
I don't know if I should take it as an insult or a compliment. I grumbled and all of them laughed. Mean people.
"You know, Sakshi has always been a peculiar child." Mr Varma started speaking, carrying a small smile. We all waited for him to continue. I want to know whatever he can tell me about her.
"During her childhood when children were busy playing outside with their friends, she was busy reading or watching TV. As years went by she preferred staying alone all the time. You know, she can go on without speaking to anyone for days. And she really likes being alone. I have seen her alone. While people find it irritating when they are alone even for an hour, she finds solace in it." I can guess how she feels. I like staying alone very often. It makes me think better.
"What I am trying to say is, she'll find it difficult to be with someone, sharing things and all because she never had that experience. She never had a brother who would steal her food, she never had a sister who would borrow her dress. She had all the things to herself and she might get possessive. And when she gets into some situation she doesn't know how to deal with, she runs. But you have to stop her. I'm putting my faith in you. Don't fail me, Arjun." He said, his eyes getting blurry.
"I promise I'll not let her run from me again. And I'll always keep her happy." I promised, more to myself than him.
