Chapter 5

SAKSHI VARMA The next day I was woken up by my phone's ringing. Ugh! Who's calling me at this time? It's like the whole universe doesn't want me to sleep.  "Hello?" I asked without checking the caller's name.  "Sakshi" As soon as I heard her breathless voice I sat up straight.  "Myra." I whispered and asked, "Are you okay?" "C-can you pick me up?" She asked between hiccups. She was full-on sobbing. "Yes. Yes, I'm coming. Just tell me, where are you?" I asked as I searched for my car keys. "At Jay's." She said. Jay is her boyfriend who is, in my opinion, an absolute asshole. "Okay, Myra just stay put until I get there," I said as I went downstairs. Nobody was at home today. They both went to some marriage and will be coming tomorrow. That's good. I don't have time to explain things to them. "Okay." She said and cut the call. When I reached Jay's apartment I saw Myra stilling outside on the pavement and bawling her eyes out. Seeing this my blood boiled. That bastard. He did something. I can feel it.  As soon as Myra saw me she ran towards me and hugged me almost knocking me down.  "Myra, tell me, what happened?" I asked, making her look in my eyes. As soon as we made eye contact, she looked elsewhere. I frowned, noticing this. "Please just take me from here. I don't want to talk about it right now." She said in a painful voice that broke my heart. Whoever hurt her, I am going to make the person pay.  "Okay. Let's go." I said softly, leading her to my car.  I took her to my apartment instead of home. Yes, I own an apartment but only a few people know about it. I come here when I'm feeling down or just want to be alone. It is not so big and is cosy with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a bathroom.  I made her sit on the sofa in the living room and went to fetch water for her. When I came back I saw her fast asleep. I will just wait until she wakes up. I sighed. Until then I should do some work too. I was working on my laptop when I saw her stirring after two hours. Her face looked pale like she was sick and I saw bruises on her cheek and hands. In short, she looked like hell. "Hey," I said and went to help her when I saw her sitting up. I put a cushion behind her so that she can rest her back. "Hi." She said nervously. "Mind telling me what happened? I'm worried sick here." I asked taking a seat beside her and took her hands in mine. "I-I don't know from where to start." She spoke. "How about you tell me what happened this morning?" I suggested and felt her hold on my hands tighten. "This morning, I went to Jay's house to celebrate our anniversary but what do I see there? Him, in bed, with another woman. I knew from the start that he was a cheating and a lying bastard but today I decided to confront him and break things off. But when I asked him about the woman he started saying how I was cheating on him behind his back. I was so stunned that I couldn't even form a reply." She said, her body shook because of her sobs.  "Then, then he slapped me and before I could even comprehend he threw me out of the house saying he doesn't want to see me anymore." She completed saying, her voice breaking at the end. She was in so much pain and I couldn't even do anything. I just want to go and kill that b***h of a boyfriend. But I have to cheer Myra up now, I will handle that bastard later. I don't know how long we sat there but eventually, she stopped sobbing and was now blankly staring ahead. Suddenly I heard my phone ring. It was an unknown number so I ignored it and put my phone on silence. "Hey, Myra," I started getting her attention, "how about we go to the mall and spend the day there?" I asked knowing that it will take her mind off the things.  She looked reluctant but after some convincing, she agreed.  We went to the mall and shopped there for almost 3 hours. Then Myra suggested that we should go to the cafeteria of the mall. Apparently, it has the best coffee in the world. Her words, not mine. I don't even like coffee that much. I'm just going to accompany her there, that's all. "You go get us a seat and I will get us coffee." She said and went to the other side of the cafeteria where the ordering counter was situated. The cafeteria was almost filled with people, the smell of coffee and cream was strong. Seems like everyone really likes coffee here. I saw an empty table at the corner of the cafeteria and went towards it. I took my phone out and started playing Candy Crush to pass time. I'm stuck at level 221. Sigh. Suddenly, I heard the screech of the chair in front of me. I guess she came back. "Took you long enough. I was thinking of leaving you here." I teased, without looking up from my phone. "I didn't know you were waiting for me here. Otherwise, I would've come here earlier." Hearing his voice, my head snapped up. Guess who it was? It was Arjun obviously. He was wearing a black suit with a red tie.  "Are you following me?" I narrowed my eyes at him. "I wouldn't have if you would've picked my call earlier." He said glaring at me. "What call are you talking about?" I asked him, getting confused. "I called you in the morning." He said, flatly. "Oh!" I exclaimed remembering the call I declined earlier this morning.  "Yeah oh." He said but I got distracted when I heard people shouting and saw a crowd forming just outside the cafeteria. I momentarily froze when I saw the person inside the crowd. "Hey, wait-" I started running towards the crowd ignoring his shouts. He can wait.
