Only hope crushed.

Joannah's POV

On Monday morning, I woke up so early at 5am just to be able to make it to the agency on time.

I had other plans that I didn't tell mom or my siblings about.

Yes, I was determined and had decided to go look for a job.

I went to the bathroom took a shower and got a pair of blue jeans and a long sleeved light blue top with light blue and white sneakers and a grey hoodie my favorite .

I was beating myself on whether to put casually or smart like an office attire. I just pulled out my green dress that looks like an office attire.

It must be the only one I have that goes on with the place but I don't know if it's a good idea.

First I don't even have any profession or career , Am not writing any application letter because am just looking for any job as long as it's safe and pays me well.

I was about to get dressed when I heard a knock on my door, who could it be at this hour, oh God its just 5:55am now. No one was supposed to be up because I was going alone and it being holidays no one was going to school.

I was just wondering who it could be coz I don't want anything to stop me from finding a job today and the only way to do it is to go to the agency alone.

I was still thinking about it then I heard mom calling me and asking if am awake already. Oh no no she is awake. I started to panic removing all the clothes have put everywhere in my room.

Yes, yes please am up mom. Just from the shower please give me a second please.

How could I even ask for a second it's gonna take me minutes. "Okay then I will be in the kitchen am going to make breakfast".she replied before she left .

I put on my pair of jeans and my buggy hoodie and left the room. Yes I knew there and then that there is no way on earth am going to the agency and then branch to look for a job.

So I just settled with my casual look and it being a cold day I put on the hoodie, yes I know I can put on casually and still be decent and smart.

Good morning mom, as your early today. She turns to me with a bright smile that I saw all her pearly white teeth. Wow it's been a while since I last saw her smile like this

I chuckled at that,good morning dear am up so early like you because we're going to the agency together with your siblings.

Now this is getting even harder. I just knew my whole plan was shattered.

Okay where are they now? . I asked while looking around the house but I don't see any of them.

They are in their rooms probably getting ready by now. In fact we all woke up so early so they should be ready by now.

Joel and Lin would you guys hurry please, "I don't want us to be late for the interview" mom calls them while removing her apron.

Annah please help me set the table, OK mom

I go to the kitchen to bring the all the necessities and set the table ready for breakfast.

Jo and Lin came in, already smartly dressed and greets me in unison before taking their seats.

You guys should have been twins, do you know that you almost do everything together and speak almost every word at once most of the times.

I joke with them before handing them their plates to serve themselves.

We are having sandwiches and fruits, oh my you know we got plenty of fruits at home and they are all fresh because we planted them at home in our little garden .

Mom came back from her room I don't know what she went to get from their.

Hurry up guys Mrs Okech has called me telling me to reach the agency before 9am so you better hurry.

We are going to use motorbikes to make it there on time.

When I heard Mrs Okech, I was a bit confused. How did Mrs Okech contact my mother and not me. Thats when I remembered that I left my mom's contact number and names on the entrance register.

Maybe they got it from there.so I just went back to eat my breakfast. After finishing up mine I went upstairs to pick my phone and cross bag ready to go.

Mom how about you drive us there? Won't it save us some transport money because we are already four of us.,you know how motorbikes guys charge higher than taxi's

That was Lin right there, a person who is looking for a bursary to complete her O-level because she got no money that's why she needs help but she still got some money to afford fuel to ride in her own private car.

I thought I was the only one giving her a unbelievable look but I was wrong, soooo wrong

Because mom too was looking at her daughter with those looks you give a little girl that says

"Baby, your too young to understand the situation we are in right now but you will be fine"

Yes that the expression my mom had on her face. And Jo for him he was just grinning while shaking his head left and right.

What? why are you all looking at me like have just said a taboo, there we go.

I knew she was just being her and not knowing exactly how these things works.

You know what Lin? , we know what you are trying to reflect here in terms of transport and what.

But we pulling out in front of the agency premises in that car right there.

Do you think the sponsors will see us as people who really need these bursaries and leave the people who can't even afford paraffin for their lanterns and give it to us who even look like we can still afford petrol?.

People believe in what they see and not what you tell them,no one can even believe we starve and live a day without food sometimes but don't we?

Leaving in this beautiful home, in a very expensive neighborhood and having a car parked in the garage and going to one of the prestigious and famous school in the country people can't believe we got no money to cater for our needs which is not true.

So you have to limit what you show to people if you need something that you want to achieve in life.

Mom said it all and Lin looked like she had just been woken up from a deep slumber.

The only thing she was doing all along was to bob her head continously understanding and putting everything together.

Hahaha oh my this girl, those were Jo's only words before he made his was to the key holder to get the house keys before we left.

I think now you understand, come on you have seen it all don't act like you forgot all the things we went through before we came here in uncle Tom's home. Just know we are not yet there to where we want to be, but we are not where we used to be, so hope you get that. That's what I told her and we went out of the gate leaving mom to lock the house doors.

She says its ever safe if she does it herself than us. I think she doesn't trust us with locking it.

Though it's so rare for us to leave the home all of us at once completely.

We went out and we waited for the by passing motorbikes because in this neighborhood, everyone got a car. The only time you can get a chance to see a motorbike is if you go to the main road and that's what we did.

We got two men and they took us on a fair amount being it that we were two two it was easy.
