The Mafia Princess

Episode 6

The light streaming through my window was so bright I had to turn towards the other side of the bed. I looked beside me but Nate wasn’t there. I sighed and rubbed my hands over my face to clear the last bit of sleep that lingered. I laid there for a while letting the events from last night play in my head. I had to put my plan in motion but first I had to know what Xavier planned on doing. I got up and immediately went to get ready. I stood before the floor to ceiling mirror and admired Nate’s work of art. He left a trail of hickeys in different parts of my body. I smiled as memories from last night flooded my head. He definitely knew how to apologize and I loved it. I went to the shower to wash of last night, when I got out I dressed in a pair of trousers and a simple shirt. I picked up my phone and headed out. It was just 8 and I knew they had already started their meeting. I also had a few missed calls from Alicia. I hadn’t seen her last night among the celebration and I could guess she was in the ER. Alicia was my best friend and compared to every other person I know, she didn’t have anything to do with the mafia. She was normal.

I finally got to the meeting room and two guys were standing right outside, probably as guards. I walked past them and they had the decency to not stopping me. I opened the door and whatever conversation they were having was put on hold. Everyone in the room looked up from where they were sitting at me and I smiled. I walked straight to my seat and the guy who was sitting in it stood up and ran to the other side of the room. I sat and looked directly at Xavier. He shook his head slightly and gestured for them to continue. I smiled at myself and looked to Ezra next. He didn’t look bothered by my sudden entrance or he was just really good at hiding it. I looked to Nate last and he avoided my gaze entirely. I sighed softly before turning to the guy who was speaking.

“We’ve ordered a trail”. He said briefly while throwing skeptical glances my way. I smiled at him and he looked taken aback.

“And has the trail found anything out?” Xavier asked and I looked at him. He looked stressed and tired. I wondered if he was sleeping right.

“They started this morning. They would have something by this evening”. He replied.

“Or they would be dead”. I muttered and everyone looked at me like I wasn’t stating what they were thinking.

“We don’t know that”. Ezra said and I turned to him.

“Come on Ezra, I know you aren’t that dumb. We are talking about the organization that has left a trail of deaths everywhere they go”. I said and he shook his head.

“Let’s work on something here, we don’t know what they are here for. It could business”. Ezra said and I didn’t have to reply because Xavier beat me to eat.

“Shut up both of you. We will finish this meeting without both of you speaking”. He said and we both nodded. I glared at Ezra quickly before turning my attention back to the man that was speaking.

“We also sent warnings to the gangs in that area to watch out for themselves”. Everyone nodded at that. From the corner of my eye I saw Nate looked at me. I tapped my nails twice on the table and he looked away.

“We also sent word to the leader of the organization to meet”. I snapped my head so fast to look at Xavier. There was no way Xavier actually wanted to meet with those monsters, he hated them as much as I did and they were dangerous. How did they decide on such nonsense just after I left last night? I looked at Ezra, How he would allow his own father to do such, I didn’t know. Ezra avoided my gaze and I sighed. I dropped my arms unto my lap and folded it letting my nails dig into my palms.

No one said anything anymore and the guy that was announcing sat down. Everyone looked at Xavier for what he would say next.

“You may go, Get back to me as soon as you get anything”. Everyone stood up apart from me, Nate, Ezra, Xavier’s right hand and Xavier. Once the room was finally empty apart from us, I stood up and looked straight at Xavier.

“How the f**k did you come up with that idea to”, I turned to Ezra “And you let him, what do you guys actually do here? Plan on ways to kill each other?” I waited for them to answer, to explain themselves, to tell me it was a lie. I’ve already lost a father before; I refused to lose another one.

“I thought about it, coming to a truce. I’ve brought every rogue gang in Italy under control; I can do it for this organization”. Xavier said like he didn’t know the history of this people.

“Xavier already made up his mind we can’t stop him”. Ezra said and I couldn’t believe they were on board with this crazy decision.

I sat down and started brainstorming, forming my own plan but I was coming up blank.

“I’m going to be fine”. Xavier said to me and he sounded so sure I almost believed it. I shook my head not wanting to believe.

They started discussing something but I tuned them out, I formed a plan in my mind but I had to get in contact with one of them. I reached across the table for the file in front of Xavier. He didn’t stop me. I looked through the pictures of spotted men. I didn’t recognize any of them from that night and that was a good thing. I looked at the background of the pictures. It looked like a bar but I needed specific details to know the exact location. Then I spotted a flyer in the background for a live performance and I dropped the file and left the room quickly, I ignored them calling my name. I quickly went to my room and brought out my secured laptop and did a search and I found it. It was just a few hours’ drive so I quickly picked up my phone and left my room, Nate was standing outside.

“What’s wrong”? Nate asked and I just shook my head. I started walking and he followed me.

“I’ll tell you when I get back”. I said.

“Xavier said no one can leave”. He said and I paused. I looked back at him and smiled.

“Cover for me”. I shouted back and ran the rest of the way outside. I got in the car and the guards opened the gate I drove out quickly before they could prepare a tail and I took detours just in case. I had a lead to follow and I wouldn’t let anyone stop me.
